I see BigBone is the only champ who got defeats. He's probably old and shot, his best days might be behind him.

Whoo boy. That was an impressive performance. That was just...wow. Nobody does that to Salido, completely dominating him, and toying him like that, dropping him 4 times. Just an impressive, impressive performance. Right now, Garcia is clearly the front runner for Fighter of the Year. This performance over Salido carries a lot of weight.

nah, i'm not happy, Garcia took the easy route (legal and fair but it was not a brave display from him), when he started to feel the heat, he said "I'm out of here", he didn't even try to fight one more round
GARCIA that's not how you win the respect of mexican fans |

At the moment, he doesn't have to do much, but I think if he and Gamboa could actually get together and Garcia were to win (or dominate) then he'd be the runner away winner. But, knowing boxing I wouldn't count on seeing Garcia-Gamboa.

Just my opinions on the fights....
Garcia vs Salido Are we all just going to pretend that Salido wasnt starting to get to Garcia? How HBO was glossing over the win as if Salido wasnt clearly starting to warm up and impose himself on Garcia the last two rounds there was revolting, though expected. That fight was young, and it was clear that Salido was old and cold in the first few rounds, and what I feared yet expected, Garcia put down Salido often. However, Salido was beginning to find his form there, and was taking Garcias punch better, and was quite clearly starting to take it to the next gear, and it was a gear that Im not sure Garcia stands up to down the stretch. If anyone thinks this fight proved anything, and that Garcia vs Salido is somehow settled, they are mistaken. Salido was always going to get knocked down against Garcia, that was a given to most people who saw this matchup clearly imo. But it was about how Garcia was going to stand up to Salido once the vet started to get going. Well.... thats not settled at all. All we got was the first half of the fight without any questions being answered. Imagine Cotto vs Margarito 1 being stopped after 7 rounds due to a headbutt, and the win getting looked at as a great dominant win for Cotto. The real story of that fight wouldnt have been told then right? That is how I feel about this fight, I dont think the true story was told. I already knew Salido was going to get dropped often from Garcia, what I didnt know is if Salido had what it took still to kick it into gear, (which he did, somewhat) or that Garcia could withstand it (which we didnt really get to see, but it was looking like tides were turning) He was starting to get going, and imo, Garcia was not liking it one bit. I think Salido robbed himself of a realistic chance of winning by being careless with his head like that, but if I was Garcia, I would not be satisfied with this win, and a rematch would be made. Shame on Max for implying there is no need for one, completely looking over the fact that Salido was starting to turn the tides. Maybe Im seeing this through rose tainted glasses, but I really feel Salido was coming on. Now, that doesnt mean he was on his way to a W (KO), but it means I want to see the natural ending to the fight. Any younger, and Salido would best Garcia Take Salido from 4 years ago and he would have thrashed Garcia all around the ring, imo. Salido of today isnt the fighter he once was, and even this version started to put it on Garcia by the 7th. Now, its not exactly fair as Garcia is still green, but my point is I think Salido is a level above Garcia, its just that the old, worn out version of Salido might not be. Although even then, I think thats still yet to be seen. Props to Garcia He entered his biggest fight with his usual poise. He did what he was supposed to do through most of the early fight, and for the most part he looked good. The fight went almost exactly how I saw it going except for the first (I didnt think Salido would get dropped till around the 3rd or so, then it would be often) and the last two (I didnt think Salido would have that kind of success at this stage) As for Garcia, I see big gaps in his game though and I hope he improves as a champion, and given his corner, and his intelligence, Im sure he will. Fans should want a rematch Salido won his championship the hard way, off a young prime establishment fighter in his backyard. Nobody gave it to him, he wasnt guided to it, he was 'the opponent' at one point and took it. Tonight he took on another prime young killer, and while he was old and cold early on, the fight was heating up and Salido was starting to come on and make it a dog fight. I dont see how any fan doesnt want to see how the next couple of rounds of that fight play out. Again.... as boxing fans, I dont see how anyone can see how the fight was going, and not want to see how the next few rounds go. Not only that, but it will be good experience for Garcia, and theres a big chance he actually wins the rematch with a solid ending in a manner he can be excited about. ---------------------------------------------- GGG vs Rosado * I have to now admit, GGG isnt quite near as good as many are making him out to be. Is he good? Hell ya hes good.... but hes not on a whole different level to any other top tier fighter in their weightclasses. He didnt do anything tonight that Chavez Jr or Martinez wouldnt have done, yet he gets twice the praise. I like GGG, I think hes good and I am rooting for him, but I have to call it like I see it and I dont think hes this boxing God hes been annointed. Fights against Martinez, and Chavez, would be great for the division and fights I think most fans would love to see made. GGG vs Pirog or Chavez, winner takes on Martinez. Anyways, at this point, I really dont see how anyone rates GGG that much higher as a fighter then Pirog, Martinez, or even Chavez (not in terms of skill but in terms of effectiveness at beating their opponent, even if that effectiveness is being bigger and stronger like Jr is) Again, I havent seen GGG do anything I wouldnt expect Pirog, Martinez, or Chavez to do. In fact, Rosado stood up to some flush power shots of GGG's that Im not so sure he does with Martinez Im not even sure I would favor GGG over any of those guys to be honest, based on a few things I see GGG is good for boxing I love GGG fights. They have an air to them that is exciting. And he comes to put on a good show, with a great attitude. Cant wait for his next fight, I hope its against Chavez, Pirog, Macklin, Geale, Sturm or Martinez. Each of those fights would be great. Did Rosado resemble Fernando Vargas to anyone else? Watch Rosado against GGG in the first few rounds, and then watch Vargas against Hoya the first few rounds. The stance, the movement, the way they throw their shots, the similarity was striking to me (Rosado obviously did a lot more moving but Im just talking about form here) Idk... to me I couldnt believe how much he looked like vargas in there in spurts -------------------------------- |
