The #1 p4p fighter whos last fight was at 154, and the #3p4p fighter who would fight him there.
Not that hard to see why people want it, regardless of the size difference. |

Mayweather going up and winning the middleweight title would put him up there with Robinson and Leonard as Welter Champs to capture a Middleweight Title
Tito and Oscar in the last decade failed to do this, this would be a historic achievement plus it would make things in the Pac vs Floyd world interesting, if Floyd won he would get closer to Manny's titles in weight classes though he will never catch that figure and also win at a weight Manny's never fought at also Martinez is one of a small list of guys who i and most think can beat Floyd at this very moment, he is fast and he is athletic and he can punch and is also very clever and experienced i mean what else is an obvious threat, making Ward come down 8 pounds and Floyd up 6 to meet at middleweight |

I think Sergio would stage manage the weight cutting to perfection and rehydrate extremely well by fight night. Just a hunch really, but he strikes me as a guy who knows his body to a tee and how to preserve himself. He's so non-chalant about this recent knee operation that it's kind of eyebrow raising.

I don't think if either man won it would help them. If Martinez won people would say 'Oh, Floyd came up too far, and he's way out of his prime' and if Floyd got the W it'd be 'Martinez was drained, he's too old'. Usually how it goes.

What makes you sure? Dawson was never world class at 168, moved up young and has come in at 190+. Sergio moved up cause he got offered money fights, and afaik never came in over 170. I understand he's older, but he's not a big mw

We all agree that Martinez is bigger than Mayweather and Pacquiao, but since all 3 once held the WBC LMW belt and Maravilla can make the division limit, calling for either of these fights were nothing unusual - just look how much size and weight Pavlik and Chavez MJr had on him.
Mayweather-Martinez was always the fight to make because Money-Pac would've been a mismatch, but it will never happen as Floyd is set to face Guerrero, Alvarez and retirement while Sergio looks to finish with Murray, MJr. and a farewell fight (possibly Ward). |
