1. Michael Spinks- Dwight Braxton....to me he laid a blueprint for beating Qawi..he was simply on his game and made Qawi look a good level or two beneath.

2. James Toney

3. Eusebio Pedroza

4. Larry Holmes

5. Jose Napoles

6. Dick Tiger

7. Rafael Marquez

8. Johnny Tapia

9. Erik Morales

10. Mike McCallum
I will have to come back later and answer.....

I can only answer on a few.

Spinks against Holmes because Spinks did the unthinkable.

McCalum vs Curry...Even if you had McCallum picked did you know it was gonna be that ugly?

Morales vs Barrera because them two went to straight war and left everything in the ring.

Toney I may say vs Littles..the guy was 24-0 with 15 KO's and Toney wooped like a stepchild.

McCallum was losing against Curry prior to landing that left.

1. Michael Spinks- Qawi, love that performance. So controlled.

2. James Toney- Barkley was the most impressive to watch, but taking everything into account I'd have to go with the first McCallum fight.

3. Eusebio Pedroza- Ford. Absolute clinic.

4. Larry Holmes- Cobb? Ali? Nah, probably Ocasio. I dunno, not seen as much of his fights as a lot of you.

5. Jose Napoles- Griffith, the Cokes fights, the Urbina destruction. You name it.

6. Dick Tiger- Hank

7. Rafael Marquez- First Vazquez fight from what I've seen.

8. Johnny Tapia- Against the other kid from Albuquerque. And Konadu.

9. Erik Morales- I dunno. He put on a hell of a punching display against McCullough.

10. Mike McCallum- Watson. Another clinic. I do like the Jackson fight, too.

I thought of Barkley for Toney, but the Jirov performance was great, even if he's not prime and Jirov isn't the greatest opposition. \

There's really no reason to dispute the Morales, McCallum, Marquez, and Spinks picks.

Holmes has room for interpretation and I'd be interested to hear different opinions on his best performances...

Indeed McCallum was losing that fight against Curry when he landed that left, even if he later said he was setting him up and waiting to time that shot. He was still losing big until that left hook saved him.

I love McCallum, but he could definitely be outboxed.

Yeah, I was going to mention Weaver, who may be more credible (or at least capable of pulling an upset than Cooney), in a fight where Holmes had to dig a bit.

I think a suitable criteria is that the fighter in question is fighting a live body; Ali (at that point) and Cobb (God love him) fall just below that standard, but I see what you mean.

There are plenty of examples of a fighter looking unbeatable in turning a no-hoper into a punching bag.

Right on!..We all know McCallum was losing that fight that thats what makes what he did to Curry even more brutal..I like voth these guys, curry was a great and hes very fun to watch..but he got caught with a sick punch and the rest is history. But I do agree with you that McCalum could be outboxed.

1. Holmes 1 - very clever performance which ended the run of an unbeaten HOF HW champ.

2. Barkley - Toney's most consistent and perfectly-executed display of counterpunching.

3. Olivares - Pedroza at his quickest and slickest.

4. Shavers 1 - Holmes keeps a very dangerous contender at bay for all 12 rounds.

5. Cokes 2 - Napoles picks up where he left off the first time.

6. Giardello 4 - Tiger adds some new wrinkles to his game.

7. Mabuza 1 - nice mix of skill and power against a dangerous contender.

8. Konadu - boxing clinic by Tapia.

9. Ayala - Morales outdoes Ayala in virtually every aspect of the game.

10. Watson - superb counterpunching display by McCallum as he picks apart a very good challenger.

Some of them have a few or are hard to pick a single performance but I've tried.

I'll elaborate if anyone wants to hear or challenge mr on any of those picks in particular.

I actually think Pedroza looked lethargic against Olivares, considering how washed up the Mexican was anyway. A bit too much posing IMO.

I agree with a fair few of your picks though. I was tempted to go for Watson as McCallum's best (and Jackson) but felt the adjustments he made against Toney second time round, factoring in his age as well, were very impressive considering how the first went and how tight it was. He performed admirably in the rematch with Kalambay as well.

Shavers I was on my radar as well, as was the 2nd for the mettle Larey showed. But battling through an injury to beat Norton, arguably the best opponent Larry beat, pipped it to the post for me.
