I just feel that his timing would cause problems for Matthysse. Lets be honest, Matthysse hasn't been in with a fighter like Garcia. Alexander is a sloppy puncher who lacks power to do damage and Judah, well, he was able to land at will on Matthysse during their fight.
I noticed during the Judah fight that Matthysse gets frustrated and was constantly being warned about using his head on Judah. If Judah can still time and counter Matthysse, then sure as hell Garcia will do it even more efficiently. Matthysse is supposed to have a good chin, but it hasn't really been tested much because he's been in with guys who are past their best or lack power. You can say the same about Garcia, but the thing is, Garcia is a smart fighter and he can avoid being hit clean due to his ring IQ. This is only my opinion anyway. I just feel that Garcia would time Matthysse and rock him in the mid rounds if, or when, they fight. |

One thing, however, which could be Lucas' downfall, is his guard when rushing into attack. It's way too low and you don't have to be the most accurate of counterpunchers to catch him coming in. No doubt Danny will have plenty of opportunities to land his body-spinners. Whether they'll have the same effect, though, I doubt.

I'll have a paypal bet with you for $20 that Lucas beats Danny Dog Shit Garcia. I think he will even stop him or his corner will retire him.

No really. The kid knows how to break his opponents down. I was impressed by what he said before he fought Khan. He talked a bit about his game plan and it was brilliant. He's a smart fighter. Not the fastest. Not the most talented. Not the strongest. But he's not terrible at anything. He's solid all around.

People just hype up Maidana and Matthysse because they've knocked out 20+ c level opponents. But we've seen that power hasn't exactly spilled over into the elite level much.

I agree with Rico, Garcia's got a good head on his shoulders, but his ring IQ is becoming overrated, mainly because of his timing. He's improving all the time it seems, and I've been impressed by him...but I haven't seen him adapt too much, haven't seen him take away an opponents strengths or take away punches, etc. Don't get me wrong, his IQ is good, but not on the level it has been discussed since his wins over Khan and Morales.

Garcia will walk through Matthysse.
People base their whole judgement on Garcia off the first 2 rounds in the Khan fight. Khan managed to be effictive against Garcia early knowing he takes time to adjust to his opponents rhythm but as soon as Garcia warmed up , it was all over. Matthysse is nowhere near Khan in terms of skill, foot speed or hand speed and comes in to attack slow and recklessly. He'll eat bombs and end up a KO or tko victim. The only thing stopping this fight is money. Lucas doesn't bring a tosser to the table. |
