you know, some people have weird body mechanics. for example, Maussa was a world champion and he never ever looked like he knew what he was doing, nor will he ever. Some people enter the gym and look good right away. There are amateurs with 10 fights with a more polished style than Mayorga, but he would destroy them.
6 months seems right assuming you are reasonably fit to begin with. Wahlberg looked terrible, though - what awful fight scenes. Ugh. And he wasn't even playing a "skilled" kind of fighter. |

Him and De Niro actually sparred together till he was satisfied De Niro could actually fight. I haven't read it for a while but from memory it was about 600 rounds and he also goes on to say that once he was satified that De Niro could actually box that he could have turned professional due to how good he had become. Quite a compliment coming from Jake La Motta! I also remember reading somewhere that when Sylvester Stallone was training to box in order to play Rocky that he called up Ernie Shavers to spar with him, Ernie was going very light on him and Stallone asked him to go hard and make it realistic, Shavers hit him with a body shot and Stallone had to take the rest of the day off. |

Every single boxing film ever , in the publicity prior the lead actor has his trainer come out and say he was brilliant, he could go professional etc. bullshit with most. they are probably at an ok amateur level and then good editing etc
will smith is on record saying he could last a round with lennox despite getting drilled by toney apparently when he irritated toney. mickey rourke boxed for years and was shite and went pro and fought a succession of people with poor records. on he david haye docuimentary he came across as a prick i thoiught lecturing haye on boxing and how to do this and that. felt he was disrespectful so in coinclusion smith, day lewis, wahlberg etc were pronbably all ok but get their arses handed to them in the pros..... |
