Default Baer Schmeling II

Lets say that Schmeling gets the title shot at Baer instead of Braddock, as nearly happened?

I think Baer pulls through against Schmeling...And Braddock still gets the winner and still wins..Until he runs into Louis. Poor Braddock.

Braddock got 10% of all of Joe Louis title defense purses. He did OK.

Braddock did an even better deal.

Braddock agreed to the fight with the stipulation that he would receive 10% of Promoter Mike Jacobs future fights. So if Braddock beat Louis or Louis retired, the deal was for any fight and any boxer that Jacobs was handling for the next ten years. This money did not include the purse, just money from the concessions i.e. hotdogs, drinks, tee shirts programs etc. So win or lose Joe Gould got Braddock a great deal. While Braddock was able to knock down Louis in the fight, Louis went on to win. Louis was quoted as saying that Braddock was the bravest man he ever fought.[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

With the Nazis still in power by 35, and with their even greater noteriety,,Baer would be even more motivated, I would think, as a fellow who wore a Jewish star on his trunks, to cave in Schmeling's head just to piss off the Fuhrer.

Yeah, I think a motivated baer is a bad idea for Schmeling at any time of his career.

I will go against the consensus so far and pick Schmeling.

I see him as being the one of the two more likley to adapt and improve upon his previous performence. I also have some doubts about Baer matching his previous performence.

You're saying that Baer was motivated against these two men the way he was vs Schmeling in '33?
