Well Im trying to see a glass half-full here: If the WBA is allowing an interim bout then the Wlad - Povetkin fight must be close to being announced.

Nothing official on Chagaev's.

They have Luis Ortiz #44 in their HW rankings.

Complete breakdown, here we go. I just learned the ins and outs of a fighters' resume who I previously hadn't.

19-0, 16 KO's

Some of his most notable wins from my glance were his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th professional fights against career journeyman Charles Davis (TKO4), Kendrick Releford (UD8.), and Zack Page (TKO8.) in 2010.

He also beat 46 year old Bert Cooper (TKO2), yes, that Bert Cooper. Luis Pineda (KO6) and Epifanio Mendoza (DQ7) also notable. God, the guys he have fought are some of the best journeyman out there, seriously. Scan their records, it's crazy.

He's a 6'4" Cuban who has fought everywhere around his native country. 12 times in the US, mostly Florida, 4 times in Dominican Republic, once in Nicaragua, once in Costa Rica, and once in Panama.

Two more worthy chaps fighting for the WBA title. The several holders of this title during the last decade have been very impressive.

Or one of them to be stripped
If Pov gets stripped or if Wlad - Pov does happen, the interim champion will be upgraded to Regular
If Wlad gets stripped , we will have Povetkin - Chagaev II
Nonsense ....

Ortiz was a top HW in Cuba for quite some time before he went pro. I hope this fight goes down because he could make some waves in the pro ranks.

Tyson Fury has time on his side ... there will be plenty of opportunities for him to progress further.

These two guys do not deserve to be fighting for a title.

Ortitz's second last fight was a guy making his pro debut. What a joke!

They should just give everyone a belt, and then the champ unifies one by one.

Alexander Povetkin is the Alexander Povetkin champion.

Wlad Klitshcko is the Wlad Klitshcko

Tyson Fury is the Tyson Fury Champion

If Wlad Klitshcko beat Alexander Povetkin, then he would be the unifed Wlad Klitshscko/Alexander Povetkin Champion, but not the Tyson Fury champion.

See how that would work?

I have a better idea. Make ONE GOOD sanctioning body and ignore the rest of them.

So here goes.

Wlad is the heavyweight champion.

Vitali is the #1 contender

Povetkin is the #2 contender

Since Vitali won't fight Wlad Povetkin is Wlad's next mandatory. If Vitali wanted to fight Wlad and Wlad didn't want to fight Vitali, Wlad would be stripped and Vitali would fight Povetkin to be the next heavyweight champ.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Would never work in a million years.

One champion?

Absurd.

Hee hee you're right. Boxing needs at least 4 world champions for every weight class!

This is getting complex.

From a mathematical point of view, it certainly lacks symmetry.

Speaking of complex, we could have complex (imaginary, in math lingo) belts.

We could have the Real Super HW belt, the complex Super HW belt, the Real World HW belt, the complex world HW belt, the Real interim HW belt and the complex interim HW belt. That's six HW titles.

So if you add the WBC Real HW belt and the WBC interim HW belt (only two from WBC), and toss in the WBO and IBF belts, both of which are real, non-super and non interim (them two organizations aren't pulling their weight here !), you would have ten HW belts, one apiece for every top-10 HW.

That way, the top ten would never have to face each other to remain 'champions' and could feast on the lesser types (Continental this, that and the other thing).

We could sure use ChinaHandJoe at the minute to clarify this complexity with his tables, charts and graphs.

On a more serious note: I think the WBA fears that Wlad is going to beat Povetkin and therefore takes the "regular" belt. So they made up a new one to not lose a "champion" and give the regular belt to the Chagaev-Ortiz winner
