I currently train in Muay Thai (for over a year now at intermediate level), had some inter clubs etc and want to make the transition into boxing. I'm 26 now and realise that I my be too old to start in the amateurs and then go pro.
Would starting off in the unlicensed scene be a good start I.e. European Boxing Fed, British Boxing Union etc getting some bouts under belt and when ready apply for BBBofC license? Bit of a dream I know but something that I've wanted to pursue for a while, Any feedback would be great!! |

You might want to join an amateur club first off and see if you don't mind getting wallopped in the face with a bit of sparring and see if your ok with this, getting whacked in the nose will make or break you.

First thing get in a boxing gym and put in some hard sparring.
If you ask around you can get some closed door fights, proper set up, 10 rounders with judges, they just aren't official and dont go on your record. |

My thai boxing coach said he would train / support me as he's done boxing in the past ( Sai Varley, just been inducted into the Martial arts illustrated hall of fame) so training wise I know ill get looked after, just the right fights / organisation to get into. Don't want to do the white collar stuff as the standard of wind milling does not appeal to me, I got technique and want to use it. |

Old maybe in comparison but not too old to fight in the amateurs. I think you can box amatuer until into 30's, I thought it was 40 but maybe that for a pro license! You would only want a year at it. |

If you are serious about improving, join a good amateur gym. You should be able to get plenty of fair bouts and have plenty of good quality sparring (obviously depending on which club you join). |
