I know numerous world titles gives the opportunity for more fighters to make money, but it can also devalue how good you are - e.g - the WBA have a few "champions"
So would you prefer to see each division have just one world title and one champion? I think it would make it more prestigious. |

yes it would be a lot better and people would anticipate the fights more. There is only one good thing about multiple belts. When there was one champion, if the champion fought a lot guys were rushed to fight him before they were seasoned. The champions now are seasoned, so unifications are usually pretty good when they happen.

Without doubt.
If every boxer in the division was aspiring towards the same title it would be much more difficult for the champ to avoid his main challenger. Not impossible but much more difficult. For instance if everyone classed DM as the lhw champ, Jones probably would have chased the fight and there's be one less mystery about superman. |

of course.
there would be far less ducking. there wouldn't be any question of who the champ was in wich division. almost all the biggest fights would get made. only one sanctioning body would mean less corruption and confusion. cherry picking would be almost impossible. the list goes on and on. |

Yes. It seems just about everyone is or can be a champion these days. There can be only one. 3 per division was enough, but now they have 20 "belts" or more per division just so the champs can pay the fees $$$.

I actually like the mutiple titles in each division because the unification of those titles is always great to see. What needs to be fix are the rules on how a fighter can obtain a title shot. I think if your fighting for a title there should never be a catch weight. All title holders must fight one another or be stripped of the title no matter the cause, except injury, and no fighter should be able to move up or down into a weight class, and fight for a belt with out beating the number one challenger in line to fight for the title of the that weight class.

With FLoyd fighting once per year this would be boring as fuck ....
especially if you are sure he would still cherry-pick easier opponents and the more dangerous guys would be constantly ducked. The current system is good but some corrections are needed as for example to end the bullshit with WBA regular/superman belts enforce the mandatory tournaments so the real top 3 in each organization would have a chance to get a shot at the title from time to time. Also some way to force belt holders to face eachother from time to time and unify their titles would be great. |
