Can't even imagine what he's had to deal with psychologically. That, and the pain suffered by Simakov's family. Just a horrible tragedy all around. Might sound cliche, but these guys really put it all on the line.

Rumors of Jet Lag, being delayed in some way which made it hard for him to get up for the fight because he didn't have any sleep.
Medical issues dealing with his back. Terrible luck. Sergey Kovalev. |

Campillo looked soft, and aged in the face. I totally buy the bad camp/jetlag thing, he did not look good. Though he usually starts slow and picks up pace, didn't get the chance yesterday. But it was a bad matchup for him to begin with.
I hope that wasn't his last train, hopefully someone like Shumenov or Cleverly thinks he's ripe for the picking. |

it was strange. no snap, no punches, looked out of shape.
with a training camp on the other side of the world with only three days to get acclimatised. psh, it wasn't going to be pretty. and to have a hungry, dangerous russian on your bonnet it was hardly looking a good night for gabriel. kovalev has improved so much since his first fight with darnell boone (one of my favorite journeymen/light contender). he got outworked and out maneuvered. then he disappeared out of my radar for a bit, then see him fighting a short rounder against a nobody. he didnt looked impressive or anything out of the ordinary. he is a puncher. and a good technician with patience as well. back to campillo. he should try to re-enter the division at euro level. if he can make 168 he should try and use it to add a bigger selection of fights. he is training with martinez isn't he? stick with that camp. prestige by association. he is a good fighter and his skills are top notch...just never given point in the fight where he could of used it. I can confirm that Campillo had a bad training camp, amongst other things which I won't go into on here.
Also Kovalev is very very good. |
