Default Anyone here seen the Carnera-Loughran fight?

Just been reading up on the Loughran-Carnera fight which appears to have been on the level. If so it's a very good win on Carnera's ledger especially as I rate Tommy better than Braddock for sure, Baer probably, and close to Sharkey, Tunney and Schmeling. the fight appears to have been pretty even for the first ten and then Primo took the last five over a terribly tired Loughran.
Anyone seen the entire fight or have opinions?

Haven't seen but what I do remember about was the massive size difference between them.

Recently I saw almost three minutes of The Carnera/ Tommy Loughran fight in Miami, 1934. What I've seen on youtube, it seems that the 85 pound HEAVIER Carnera
outhustled Loughran and won a decision.Years ago I read an article stating that Tommy Loughran said that Carnera ate so much garlic before the bout, in clinches Carnera's breath almost made Loughran pass out. Imagine today putting a lightheavyweight
against a heavyweight champion 85 pounds heavier ?

I saw a version where Laughrin was interviewed, he had totally different version. He said he put this real smelly stuff in his hair, and in clinches, Canera was shown turning ghead away in disgust when his nose got near it.
I saw this in pre-cable days so that narrows it down to a few networks that could have shown it.

Apparently Loughran had a hard time coping with Carnera's tactic of stepping on his feet. I do think this might be Carnera's best win, since there's really no evidence Loughran gave anything less than an honest effort, the verdict was apparently fair, and Loughran's heavyweight credentials were excellent.

Although Loughran was no doubt past his best, he was still a formidable force, considering his strong efforts against Art Godoy after losing to Carnera. He beat Godoy, drew with him, and then apparently he loss was close enough to go either way.

To "imagine", you have to have a good "memory".
Yesterday I went to my psychiatrist and he asked me my reason for coming
to his office. I told him "doc, I can't remember anything at all",I just forget.
He asked me "Burt, how long is this going on "?.. I said, "How long is what
going on "?.

Ahhh the famous Loughran excuses. Ive never read more interviews with an all time great fighter who had more excuses, or outright lies, for why he lost a fight.

Agree. Post-fight he said that Carnera trod on his toes in the tenth or eleventh and but for that he would have won easy. But he thought he should have got the decision anyway as he landed the cleaner punches. Shades of Haye?!
Ironic that Primo showed such courage after his ankle injury in his next fight but in fairness Loughran showed bravery in this fight too.

Ive always found it interesting that Carnera is often denigrated but out of the five men who held the heavyweight championship between Tunney and Louis he was only one with more than one successful title defense and one of only two to actually be able to defend the title at all (Schmeling being the other against Stribling).
