Default Ways to protect your solar plexus?

I take body shots pretty well. I sparred a guy who is a known beast when it comes to body punching, and wasn't having trouble with his shots to the ribs, but the ****er caught me dropped me twice with shots to my solar plexus .was about to die the second time.

How do you defend against that? Does it have to do with positioning? Breathing?

with legs. When you see punch coming (after few shots you could already know if he will aim to plexus), jump out of range and come back with left hook. If you cant read it, **** it, block it with your elbows..

one of the ways can be reflecting his punch, its hard but you can open him and counter also. its for all body punches

and maybe you could try to parry that punch with the same side arm, its very natural to parry straight punches so maybe that would work.

Why the hell is this guy trying to destroy your body in sparring and knock you down with body punches??, do you guys always go this hard to the body its very bad if you have a fight its better to get hit hard in the head and be able to recover but body blows will **** you up if you have a fight and the guy goes to your body or even if you cant move properly from the sparring shots

But yeah you could always protect it by just pivoting and protecting with your right elbow/forearm and make him pay with a very very hard left hook, make sure he wont want to go back there. Or you could block it with your left shoulder but take a little step back before and catch it with your arm and then because you stepped back a little he will have to come in and lean forward and then come back with an uppercut once hes come in and youve blocked it, it really dosent feel good. Joe Louis was great at this watch him vs Nathan Mann i believe.

Or you could also do an easy one and when you see it coming just move your jab hand over your solar plexus to protect it and pivot to your right a little bit and once he hits you on your glove or forearm come back with a right hand and make it very hard

The hell are you talking about.. in a lot of gyms the etiquette is as hard as you want to the body and take it easy on the head. Body shots hurt but head shots can leave you with permanent damage.

I'm with you on that. It's kind of an unspoken rule. Body shots are fair game.

Lol... Jump out of the way and pivot!? Really. That's the only way you can deal with body shots ? Some advice on here is terrible. Try using your elbows- if your stood right they sit on the side of your body anyway.

This is the easiest way to do it.

Don't get squared up to begin with; get sideways to your opponent with your hip and shoulder up front.
And you don't have to get hit hard for a solar plexus punch to take your wind. It is really a placement and timing shot.

Not in Thailand where your body is your livelihood. An overly heavy body shot can bruise up the ribs pretty bad putting you out the gym for some time. Not good if you've got an upcoming fight.......

Well, are you talking about kicks/knees though? That's another story entirely. Been there, and it sucks.

You can use both of them, since you're probably on the inside at that moment. Don't pull down your arms, that will leave your face open. Instead hunch a little so you cover both your face and body, and don't bring the right elbow too close, as you'll open yourself up for a liver shot.

Or you could slightly twist your upper body and not move your arms at all, if you know what I mean. That also gives you opportunity to come back with something (if you twist to the left you're in perfect position for a left hook or uppercut for example), which is nice. The moment you feel something tapping your elbow, the hand attached to that elbow can counter. Tap on right elbow? Throw a short and crisp right hand inside whatever punch he'll follow up with.

Not sure if I'm making much sense, I'm feeling a little vague today

Same here. If you can hurt someone to the body, do it. We always hunt for livers in sparring. I got put on the canvas in sparring once by a taller and heavier guy, he had been hunting for my liver for rounds and I could no longer run. I collapsed, in pain, laughing like a farmer with toothache and calling him an asshole. He responded by "humping" me from behind while laughing loudly, attracting the attention of the entire gym. I was unable to move for 10 to 20 seconds, all I could do was listen to a gym full of laughing people

Fun times

I haven't boxed in years now but even I thought that was absolute gash advice.
