Default monitoring opponents rear hand

As a southpaw the threat of the straight right is always an issue just as my left is to him, was looking for more of the scienece of boxing and ways to monitor his right hand? Eyes, positioning, tricks,or whatever you think I can do to be fully alert, counter,or make him not throw the right hand. Anything from yous would be awesome. Thanks

i think its sparring where you will get experience. every person has its own style, you cant learn some sign or something and use it on all boxers..

some basic things i learned are to watch his hands, not eyes or something

if you are southpaw, circle to your right if you wanna avoid his right hand. that puts him in bad position to throw the right hand.

you can go to your left but then expect his right coming. then you can counter it.

I think what you have to watch out for more than just watching his right hand is watching his position relative to you/ angel/ footwork. the right hand doesn't land that well unless he gets position on you...which means stepping his left foot on the outside and forward past your lead right foot, and having his right foot lined up down the center of your body...once there he can fire in the right hand with great effect. Your objective needs to be to win the battle of footwork

When I started boxing it was with my brother who is a south paw, I sometimes sparred my other brother who fought out of a south paw stance....when i started boxing for real the gym i was at had many south paws, (weldon, calvin, kyle, sonny....)..so i use to listen to trainers on sparring south paws..listen when guys like foreman would mention and gil clancy would mention it on hbo, and read up on it...

one of the things i found that worked was using the jab as a fast feeler...with it steeping forwards and to the left, thus getting position with my left foot on the outside of his and my right foot in the middle..i would than fire my right and come with a hook (however it was not thrown as a 1-2-3, because the jab is not a fluid combination...instead i would step with the jab and would have a slight delay between the jab and right hand down the middle).

basically, you do want to watch for the right hand..but the way to keep it from being a major threat is to understand footwork angles and body positioning.
