Default Amir Mansour vs. Dominique Alexander, January 25th

Non-televised.

Mansour will be making his seventh appearance at the Dover Downs Hotel in his native Delaware, where he's fought all but once throughout his post-prison comeback. He's sold the 1,600-capacity venue out every time.

On the line for Mansour is an American TV debut. If he gets by Alexander, he's got a date lined up in April to be showcased against a "top ten name" on ESPN2 FNF.

If Mansour wants to graduate to a higher plane of competition rather than contentedly stagnate at the Rollins Center into his mid or late forties making peanuts, he's got to seize every opportunity available.

IF the layoff and Alexander's unimpressive pedigree lead to Mansour taking this lightly, there exists the slim chance he suffers a setback.

Reasons Alexander might be dangerous to a woefully unprepared Mansour:

Activity - Alexander last fought in October; Mansour over a year ago.

Age - ten years' difference between them.

Size - 5" advantage held by Alexander.

Experience - Alexander has almost twice as many bouts and thrice as many rounds under his belt.

Blitzing - he doesn't have a lot of kayos to his credit, but has scored them in the first round several times...and as recently as twice in the last year.

However...Alexander has a glass jaw, and Mansour is a puncher. So, do the math. Dominique has more losses than wins by stoppage. Nine of those have come in the first two rounds. One of those was to a guy with a current 1-6 record. (although the rest were mostly to be taken seriously, ie champs Odlanier Solis, Shannon Briggs, Diablo Wlodarczyk and a slew of average-to-fair contenders)

Mansour can't and probably won't sleepwalk against Alexander in front of his loyal Diamond State fans. Expect a savage KO1 as Mansour storms the gates early taking no chances of ****ing up his long-awaited "arrival" before the door is closed.

Decent comeback opponent. Not as rugged as a Gavern or a Quezada, but has sneaky power and if Monsour gets caught off guard early, it could be lights out for him.

If he's serious about fighting, even for a regional title, he'd better steer clear of trouble, and keep busy in the ring.

I wonder if the reason for his being a stay at home fighter has anything to do with the conditions of his parole?

AM is a good fighter, but it's hard to get excited about a guy trying to get somewhere for the first time in his forties who you're not sure can even stay out of the hoosegow long enough.

@IB: Amir Mansour is 6'1.5", so there is not 5 inch height difference. Even Boxrec took notice lately and updated him to 6'1. If Mansour can't blow away that guy in two rounds max. he should quit boxing and go back to drug dealing (and that's coming from a fan).

He's another one. I tried my best to make it happen, but his team said I'm not rated anymore by any sanctioning bodies. Now they're fighting a guy with ZERO punch resistance. Can't respect it.

This is supposedly the end of his can crushing era.

"Top ten opponent on ESPN2 in April" after this.

...Assuming he doesn't get KTFO in 1 by Alexander and then promptly forgotten by the boxing world forevermore. (except when those touting him as a Klitschko terminator are humiliated by having their posts bumped)

other than losing 13 of his last 19 fights all by knock out, and most before the 2nd round i guess not much.

a 16-0 prospect with 12 wins by KO vs a guy with 13 knockout LOSSES since 2007

somehow fights like this get sanctioned

...yet Dominique is his third best opponent by a mile. (although a clear regressive step down from shot Guinn & Epi Mendoza)

I'm really interested to know who's in play for April.

Ding, any idea? Were you trying to meet him at Dover Downs next month or insinuate yourself onto that FNF card? If the latter, have you heard who they're contemplating instead?
