Azumah was possessed in that fight haha. Naturally very strong. Sanchez broke him down methodically.

Dude is underrated. To do what he did by such a young age is incredible. Could have been the Greatest Ever. Punched hard, fast hands, accuracy like no other, his combos were beautiful, excellent boxer, defense was sick, counter punching was insane, poise, mean streak. I think he could have gone up to 130 with no problems. He had wide shoulders. Let's not forget the MexFro.
Greatest Mexican Boxer ever. No Contest. Not Even Close.

Didn't Nelson say Sal was the greatest boxer he fought? Dude also lost to Pea. That's high praise.

Fixed.

On that note though, Gomez allegedly talked a lot of shit and oozed arrogance once that fight was made and all throughout the build-up to it. He got what was coming to him, though he did fight like a champion. Sal took his bombs without even changing his facial expression

I like the side caption of the Saddler-Lopez fantasy fight, again pointing to how he was thought of during his time. One of the most popular fighters of his day as well.

Top 3 for me with an asterisk because his career got cut short and I firmly believe his greatest accomplishments were ahead of him.

Beautiful thread mate.
I'm using phone right now but I'll PM you tonight and sorry I couldn't get back on that rumour about the 52yo the other day but never had laptop so PM's are murder to do on phone.
I've never doubted that Chava would've been your greatest compatriot had he not been taken from us.
Some guy from Maryland who was allegedly an OK fighter( probably an overrated bum) said of Chava:"Amazing. So gifted, so skilled.Probably my #3,4 or 5 if I was forced" and I also heard him say in an interview that Chava had all the fundamentals down to a tee and was like a perfect boxer.
Then again,what would he know?

Excellent post NWS.

Even if you don't have him in your top 5, he can't be too far behind, amazing considering he died so young. I'd have to say he was the most fluid boxer I've ever seen, everything was so natural, the way he stood in front of Gomez firing counters while not even being tagged was a thing of beauty. Even tho I'm a fan of Gomez he was a punk and it was nice to see him get whooped lol.
