Default Tyson best Wins.

I am a fan of Tyson, but his resume is very average imo.
List your top ten wins (Not performances, Just who he beat at what time in there career)

My opinion:
1. Tony Tucker (Undefeated and in prime)
2. James Smith (Good wins over Bruno and Witherspoon)
3. Tyrell Biggs (Was most skilled but a novice in the pro's
4. Frank Bruno x2
5. Donovan Ruddock x2
6. Carl Williams
7. Pinklon Thomas
8.Michael Spinks (Wasn't a real heavy and wouldn't have beaten any above but good win on paper)
9. Trevor Berbick
10. Larry Holmes (On paper)

Givens beat him.

Best wins in championship fights (in order):

1. Michael Spinks KO1 - Historically significant fight. One of only two occasions in history where legitimate undefeated heavyweight champions faced each other.
2. Larry Holmes KO4 - Devastating performance. Brutal stuff. Iron Mike at his very best.
3. Trevor Berbick KO2 - My favourite description of Kostya Tszyu is "I once saw him knock a man down twice with one punch" - Bert Sugar RIP. Try three times with one punch from Iron Mike.
4. Pinklon Thomas KO6 - Again, brutal, devastating stuff.
5. Tyrell Biggs KO7 - Undefeated Olympic gold medalist.
6. Tony Tucker W12 - Made to work hard against a guy who was a very good heavyweight at his best and he was at his best in this fight.

Holmes is a good win because of what he went on to achieve afterwards. Tyson was just too good at the time he made it look easy.
Golota is another underrated win.
Carl Williams was one of his best performances next to Thomas, Spinks and Berbick.

I'm not sure I rate Tyson's win over Holmes that highly, considering Holmes had been dragged out of an almost two year retirement and after the fight he went immediately back into a retirement that lasted three or so years. I dont think anything can speak more about a man's lack of determination and passion to win than being dragged out of an almost two year retirement for one fight then going straight back into retirement again.

Larry Holmes wasn't as faded as people suggest, 4 years after Tyson beat him Holmes beat an undefeated Ray Mercer and lost a close decision to a prime undefeated Holyfield for the heavyweight title, 3 years after that he lost another close decision to Oliver McCall for the heavyweight title. Tyson was the only man to knock Larry out, he may have been past prime but he certainly wasn't shot.

He wasn't sitting around on the couch. He was still in training and put in the hardest camp for Mike. The way Tyson beat him left any doubt it would of been any different if Homles was younger.

Ftr, Iron Mike rates his win over Larry Holmes as his best.

It's hard to disagree.

Larry was at a big disadvantage because he came in coming off a long stretch of inactivity but there's no doubt it was one of Iron Mike's best performances.

18 months layoff is nothing.

Tito came back after 2 and a half years , destroyed Mayorga and looked fantastic doing it.

Just my two cents,

Holmes took punches from great hitters like Ernie Shavers and Jerry Cooney and won.

His punch resistance may already be gone when he fought Tyson.

A younger Holmes isn't a guaranteed win, but seeing how someone like Douglas who utilized jab (Holmes best weapon), solid punches and a stout heart stopped Tyson, there's reason to believe a younger Holmes wouldn't do otherwise.

Tyson is one of the most overrated fighters of all time. His resume is very weak. He was a glorified bum beater. He was a mentally weak punk who always folded like a cheap tent when things didn't go his way. He lost 6 times, got KTFO 5 times, quit twice. He never avenged any of his losses.

It's plenty if you're facing Iron Mike at his very best.

He got more from sparring than he would of fighting some guy who was nothing like Tyson. He wasn't sitting around on the couch.
