LAS VEGAS – Some MMA observers may have misread Dana White's reaction to Randy Couture's new deal with the Viacom-owned Spike.

White's tweet of "I love it" wasn't the pleasant bon voyage it seemed.

Rather, it was an expression of relief at never having to do business with the UFC Hall of Famer again, according to the UFC president.

"Randy Couture comes off as the greatest guy in the world – Captain America," White said. "He's the furthest thing from it, and I'm happy that I don't have to be in business with him anymore. Now I don't ever have to be in business with him again."

Such a venomous comment might come as a surprise to newer fans, who have seen Couture serve as an on-air analyst in the first five UFC events broadcast on FOX, or as deja vu for those who witnessed the fallout from a contract dispute between the fighter and promoter six years ago.

White, though, said it was a long time coming.

"Not for a lot of people that know him it won't be," he told MMAjunkie.com ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]). "(For) 99.9 percent of the people, that won't be shocking at all. People that really know him, not people that watch him on TV."

In 2007, Couture resigned from the UFC, citing discontent with the promotion's management and a desire to fight Fedor Emelianenko.

This prick just can't help himself. For all that Couture did for the UFC and the brand, and this fringe still can't learn to bite his tongue. When is Zuffa going to rid themselves of this clown.

The UFC got a court injunction to prevent the Fedor Couture fight happening under the Affliction banner citing that Couture was still under contract with them. It was Zuffa who purposefully nixed a fight that both Fedor Randy and fans at that time wanted. Fuck Dana. And fuck Zuffa.

Yes, what a disaster Dana White has been for the UFC and MMA in general. Gee, the company and the sport was in such great shape and doing so well before he arrived, and he has just run it into the ground. Imagine the kind of growth the UFC would surely have had without Dana's involvement ruining all the potential.

One could discuss Dana white's in many ways...including how much power he really has....having said all that...one could argue that Don King has done allot for "boxing" in many ways, yet still say he is giant load of walking shit....one might make the same argument about Dana

I agree, sometimes some of his personal vitriol is a bit much.

But then, devil's advocate, he calls it as he sees it. That's a strength and a weakness. He'll talk shit on Couture, but he'll stick up for people too. But you're right, a dignified silence would have been better.

What did Don King really do for boxing that hadn't been done before?

At least Dana really seems to honestly give a shit about the fans and the growth of the sport. The UFC spends lots of money both on growing the sport around the world and on fighter safety/medical coverage etc. It costs a LOT of money to fly across the world and put on 4 shows in Australia, but they're willing to do it instead of staying in Vegas for every fight.

Every combat sports promoter talks a lot of shit, and every combat sports promoter uses some people up and then discards them. That's the nature of it. Dana is no different. But look around. Which major combat sports promoter is better? Who is more honest with the fans, and who puts more back into the sport?
