Default Any good reason to rate Canzoneri highly?

Here's mine. This is what I could find with a quick trawl through The RING's annual ratings. The following fighters were beaten by Canzoneri and all were at some point in the top ten. Important note: I didn't even touch junior lightweight or junior welterweight, just bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight and welterweight. Hall of Famers in bold:

Johnny Green
Pete Sarmiento
Ignacio Fernandez x3
Vic Foley
Bobby Garcia
Chick Suggs
Joey Sangor
Andre Routis
Sammy Dorfman
Phil McGraw
Johnny Farr x3
Joe Glick
Tommy Grogan x2
Al Singer
Lew Massey
Battling Gizzy
Billy Townsend
Eddie Wolfe
Harry Dublinsky x2
Frankie Klick x4
Cleto Locatelli x2
Leo Rodak
Bobby Pacho x2
Joe Ghnouly
Al Roth
Billy Hogan
Steve Halaiko
Johnny Jadick

Johnny Dundee
Bud Taylor
Benny Bass x2
Jack 'Kid' Berg x2
Kid Chocolate x2
Billy Petrolle
Lou Ambers
Baby Arizmendi
Jimmy McLarnin

Probably missed a few.

You've done threads on two of my top ten favourite fighters, today. Why, if I had your picture, I'd make damned sure you had a WAR hat on, I say.

Glad you enjoy them. Just wanted people to see why he's in the top twenty all-time.

Canzoneri had balls. Ballsy bastard with that low-hands and chin out counter-punching style. But that's a given considering he's Italian. Great fighter, perhaps a shade under-appreciated and or underrated.

I usually have him between 11-14.

Above McLarnin, behind Ross.

By my reckoning Tony spent 47 months as the best LW in the world and 11 months as the best FW in the world.

His best years were from 27-33 and his ledger looks something like this

WW: McLarnin, Jadick.

LW (including his lww fights): K Chocolate (x2), Ambers, B Taylor, Routis, Bass, Singer, Shaw, Berg (x2), Petrolle, Rodak - Singer (D), Jadick (D)* - Mandell (L) Ross (Lx2), Fuller (L), Jadick (L), Berg (L), Petrolle (L), Ramey (L), Blitzman (L)

FW: J Dundee, Routis, Bass, I Fernandez, Foley - Sarmiento, - Routis (L), C Anderson (L)

BW: B Graham, C Lynch (x2) - B Taylor (D) - B Taylor (L).

In all honesty, that level of weight jumping impresses me more than Pac's does.

Vic Foley - I knew his nephew in BC Canada.

Foley was a great tough little fighter, if you look at his record he had 29 draws, 29. you just wonder how many of them might have favoured the home town fighter? seemingly Foley was trying hard to get McClarnin, but Old Pops Foster steered his boy right to secure him into title place.

Foley ended up in the Klondike or somewhere up in the booming North and ran a Hotel/Saloon dealing with all manner of growlers over the years. Some great old fighters back in the day!

JG or Burt do you know anything about Vic Foley, a little before your time but perhaps you might remember stories or mention of him?
