Default Gif of getting punched in guard

There have been some .gif's here that show that many BJJ guard tecnhiques aren't great for MMA because they can get punched badly. Can anyone please post some?

Woah. Woah. WOAH! As a former active jiujitsuan I will be the first to say that if you're getting hit in the guard that is not good technique. That is what we call - getting hit in the face. The whole point of using the guard is to not get hit or hurt. The guard is not the END itself but a means to an end.

Now I shall breakdown the gifs above as to the examples of poor technique.

Rule Number One: Control your opponent's posture by grabbing an arm and their head.

Vera does not have a solid grip on Bones' arm and as you can see Jones' head is up high so he can rain down that elbow.

This is a MOUNT position and does not involve the guard at all.

Rule Number One (when mounted): Cover up with both arms and bridge your opponent off of you to prevent them from throwing strikes.

Matt is not covering properly as he is trying to catch the punches with his hands and he is not bridging Jones off balance.

Rule Number One: Control their posture. See above.

Since Aldo's guard is OPEN at this point he should be kicking Hominick away so he can stand up.

Aldo had zero gas in the tank at that point of the fight. He likely didn't have the energy. He was just attempting to ride out the storm. He still didn't take much damage for a guy totally gassed out and on the bottom for damn near a whole round.

Aldo has a shitty gas tank? Tell me more about Aldo's poor gas tank because I don't think I've heard anyone mention how crap Aldo's gas tank is. I don't even think Aldo's gas tank has been brought up before right now.

If he was truly exhausted he should have switched to a closed guard at that point - but it doesn't matter because we are looking at these gifs out of context of the fight as a whole. We are only concerned about the technical deficiencies displayed - not what caused them. In MMA you can't clinch a guy until he wears out and makes a mistake. You will lose the fight on points simply by virtue of the fact that the opponent was in the top position. By all rights fatigue was a big part of Aldo's lagging late against Hominick. He was wailing on him until that point. Same as with Frankie this past weekend. He started to lag during the third and as Aldo kept getting slower - - Edgar stayed fast until the end.

Richard Steele.

Well, it was definitely crap in the Hominick fight. He seemed gassed after two rounds. In the Florian fight, I thought I saw the same thing, Florian didn't seem to press the issue though like Hominick and Edgar did, so it wasn't as noticeable. Aldo gasses noticeably After two rounds. Notice, how sharp, fast and crisp he is, all around in the first two rounds. You can tell he isn't top shelf anymore a couple minutes into the third. His timing and reaction time slows. Anybody wondering why Pettis wants Aldo instead of Edgar, it is because of that shitty ass gas tank Aldo seems to have. A two round Aldo, is definitely an easier fight for Pettis, than a five round Henderson.
