Armstrong decision. Too busy and would most likely outhustle him. Hank is playing with fire though the way he fights in close quarters. I still think his chin holds up though. That would have been a wild fight.
I wish we had Jack/Armstrong on film !!

Good fight but Armstrong was a force of nature. Great attack and great defence. Great stamina and great power.
It takes something special to beat Henry and as special as ike is, he aint special enough. |

I saw Beau Jack outspeed Henry Armstrong at MSG in 1943, and a few months later
ole Henry lost a decision to rising star Ray robinson also at MSG. Armstrong at 31 years of age was a shopworn fighter by that time...Who would win Ike williams vs Henry Armstrong at their 135lb bests ?. I have to go with Hammerin Hank if i had to bet...He along with Harry Greb had inhuman stamina, and never gave you the ball... |

Williams could potentially be a tough stylistic matchup for Armstrong - perhaps his toughest in and around 135 IMO. He was a very good inside technician and a quick and savage combination puncher at close quarters. His uppercuts could be especially problematic for Armstrong's crouching style, especially given his tendency to cut and swell in tough fights.
Having said that, Williams somehow managed to be beaten down and stopped by Sammy Angott, of all people - how on earth did that happen?? Certainly that doesn't bode well for him against arguably the greatest infighter of all time.

I don't know how burt scored it, but the United Press scored it a draw, the Associated Press scored it 5-4-1 for Armstrong, and the crowd is reported to have lustily booed the decision.
