Default Glove weight?

Been boxing for around 6months im 16 stone 6 4" and need to get some new gloves. My coach reckons 16oz, i went into the gym a complete beginner, done a few rounds sparring now and startin to train seriously/ on a more regular basis. The ones ive had are 14oz, and they seemed fine. What would guys recommend? I was thinking adidas as a brand, again any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You're a big guy - i imagine most gyms/coaches won't want you sparring in anything smaller than 16 oz.
Smaller gloves are OK for hitting pads and bags, but sparring partners will appreciate 16 oz.

I don't have any experience with Adidas. I've only seen low end vynil Adidas gloves in stores, and I never hear of anyone recommending Adidas, so I don't even know if they sell decent gloves worth trying.

Was gona buy some mail order, but decided to go and try em on first. Noticed most people at the gym i go to use 14ozs, most are lot more skilled than me,so figured i'd put myself on a level playing field with them. A few younger lads, but ur always restrained with them.

You are a big guy. You need 16's. If you can crack decently and your gym isn't full of guys as big as you, you probably should wear larger.

If guys your size are wearing 14's and sparring they are a$$holes. If the coach hasn't caught this and fixed it he is an a$$hole too or incompetent.

Go get 16's. Not just any 16's either. Some that have good protective cushioning. The people in your gym are ON YOUR TEAM! It is sparring not a title fight. Save your 14's for when you travel... where I am sure the other coach will tell you to wear some 16's.
