I don't think the lead right hand really is such a big factor here as moorer will probably be quite happy to to get into a shoot-out here with the smaller (weight wise) man and that will allow dempsey to fight his fight and land on moorer's chin and if we are fighting in a three knockdown rule set then I even more strongly go for Dempsey

That's meant to be a good lead right? It's thrown wide as an overhand and slow, it's a sloppy right but it is one of the rare rights Dempsey landed as a lead, it's still a weakness as a lead and he wouldn't normally threw it. Dempsey nearly always leads with a left hook and as you can see the left is what does the damage in that clip

honestly..i know people keep saying how good moores jab was..and i think it was good when a guy choose to box him..but from what i can tell if you wanted to get in on moore and fight it out with him he would oblige.

left hooks are pretty good on south paws as well...espically when you combine it with a lateral -forward step to your own left...

Whoever strikes first... Moorer had better defense, Dempsey a slightly better chin. Moorer, in his prime, was triphammer fast with straight, economical and powerful punches. It may bet a boxing match for a few rounds but the real Moorer and Dempsey will emerge sooner and later and then we will have a brawl.

Very close pick, a series would be damn even. For a one off, I will pick Dempsey.

I think Moore gets rated a bit too high to be honest...got kind of lucky with Holyfield..never again beat a elite level heavyweight.....unless you count guys like botha and schultz.

Moorer is better than anyone Dempsey beat and both fighters could knock the other out. It suits Dempsey as a match up as Moorer is going to stand in front of him and exchange. Moorer is technically better though with his jab, high guard and shorter punches and he could punish allot of Dempsey's mistakes.

In some ways it's a similar match up to Moorer-Cooper so I'd say it depends on rule set. If Dempsey can knock Moorer down early and stand over Moorer he wins, if he can't Moorer can regroup and begin to pick Dempsey apart with his superior technical skills

EDIT just noticed the 2 versions, I think the heavier Moorer almost certainly wins, too big
my first thought

Moorer also won that fight using short, precise, hard punches inside

Dempsey wouldn't have a field day with Moorer whether it'd be inside (Dempsey's playground) or outside, but I too think the HW Moorer would take Dempsey's punches better, particularly to the body, and he would also hit harder

HW Moorer wins by KO in 5 or 6
LHW Moorer gets mauled and ko'ed in 7

who rates him too high ? and how high is that ?

Moorer has many solid wins (Jirov, Botha, Schulz, Cooper, Stewart), and one great win, no matter the excuses Holyfield may have had

he's about as good as most HW title holders of the 80s

regarding the hw version of moorer being too big, was moorer ever really bigger than dempsey, by that I mean frame wise?
LHW Moorer was big, I think he looked bigger than Dempsey, even if not by much, because of his more developed muscle mass

what I intended to say (and maybe PP too, I don't know) is that the war Cooper initiated with his inside fighting and power punching mauling, trying to negate Moorer's assets, is probably what Dempsey would aim for, hence the Cooper fight gives a good idea how a Dempsey-Moorer match would unfold
