Default Did HBO get rid of Floyd??

This is not a leading question ,

However reports state that Floyd new contract with ShowTime will be worth up to $250 mill for 6 fights.

Yet Floyd made 85 mill in his last two fights with HBO, therefore the move for Floyd doesnt make any real difference to him financially.

Im just wondering if it was HBO who pulled the plug on this arrangement and are moving away from these type of PPV events.

It seems strange that both Floyd and Manny move within a short space of time.

I just hope HBO are not pulling out of boxings biggest names.

Peace.

They did a mathematical calculation that resulted in Mayweather no being worth $250 million dollars to HBO.

Will be interesting to see if he fights as often a CBS thinks he will.

I believe the $250mil is the guarantee he gets for those 6 fights. That comes out to about $42mil up front per fight. His record guarantee so far was $32mil against Miguel Cotto

Well according to HBO they tried to get Floyd and when they released their statement they didn't say anything about not wanting to go down the same road with Floyd so you decide.

Besides I thought Manny fought on HBO? He only had one fight on Showtime

and Floyd is getting 200 million dollars for 6 fights, BUT depending on how marketable the opponents are and other factors, he can get 250 or more. He's not getting a set number.

Well Floyds marketability in a lot of ways is based on his 0. Say he takes a lucky punch in his 2nd fight into his contract and gets ko'd, he wouldnt sell as well subsequently. Maybe HBO would have made Floyd more money on a fight by fight basis but didnt offer the security of the the 30 month contract.

Like all fighters, he will slow down and either stop or be stopped so I suppose its a sensible move from both HBO and Floyds perspectives. The real gamble seems to be on Showtimes part. It only REALLY works out for them if Floyd goes through all the fights unbeaten, which of course is not totally out of the realm of being a possibility, but its still a big gamble.

The key to this being good for Showtime and boxing fans is if Showtime have considerable influence over who his opponents are. Maybe Guerrero is a get going fight.

Does de La Hoya still hold the record of largest boxing payout at $52mil?

It's really difficult for us to know but everyone in the industry appears to be excited about the deal...It just looks like Showtime have wanted Floyd for a long time....which was confirmed by Al Bernstein and they along with CBS put forward a great offer to get him.

HBO probably didn't think they would be such an aggressive offer to compete with and even if they could compete because of their set up it might not have
been financially viable for them to match or exceed it.

It's going to be interesting to see what his next guaranteed purse will be.

Hasnt Floyd broken that?

AKAIK that wasn't DLH's guarantee, that was the money he made from the fight with whatever deal he had with .. (I was going to say GBP)

...

I dont know.

I think Mayweather vs Cotto would have topped it? Didn't the fight itself do something like 94m, with Floyd taking in about 50+60? I read somewhere that he made 85...though Im not sure how accurate that is

I think Floyd or whoever liked the guarantee more than the possibility of making that much money. I think the guarantee is $200 million with upside for PPV.
