lol our coach spars us with 10 oz bag gloves on with that d30 padding on it that goes hard when it makes contact. absolute last gloves you should be sparring with. and yes, ive looked up gyms in sudbury. i know there has been some good olympic amateurs that have come from there

Here we spar with 18(someone 16) oz sparring gloves with nice thick padding,i used to spar with people when they and me had 10 oz gloves, its horrible.
Never again. When we do controled sparring(very light) and drills we do it with 10 oz gloves but its very light though.

Spoon, if what you're saying is true, then you should look into only using that particular gym for its equipment. You will learn next to nothing anyway from your "coaches".
An MMA gym will not teach you to box anymore than a boxing gym will teach you MMA techniques.

I would basically knock the sparring on the head (Pardon the pun) and just do the actual training. I gues if you want to actually box it's a bit tricker but wait till you find a better alternative and train hard in the meantime.

might be better off not even going to that gym at all even for the non sparring workout...will pick up bad habits..bad habits are harder to break than to just build up good habits in the first place.

sounds like the coach is telling you what you want to hear & not the right advise for the future
if you paying to train ,,,its your life just say NO when asked to sparr

There is allot more to boxing than sparring,,,when your ready to sparr again ,pick one day of the week to sparr and stick to it ,,the rest of the time learn what boxings all about ,,only then will your sparr day start to become less damaging to your health

this should take the pressure of you when asked to sparr ,the coach should know what day you sparr

don't toss it off when everyone else is sparring keep busy so your looking interested in improving

Remember think of your health before anything else

a torn retina, in sparring? Wow, you should just quit boxing. At least if that torn retina was in an important pro fight or world title fight it would make sense but you haven't even made money yet and your already damaging crucial body parts. I'm assuming your still young so you can do something else or take up a different sport.

Also after a sparring session your suppose to take the next day off to let the body heal from the bruises. If you're wearing headgear you shouldn't be getting hit in the eyes easily. Keep your guard up while fighting and if your partner is not going easy on you, punish him badly.
