Default Why is France not a european boxing powerhouse?

With their large population and huge economy, they can't seem to field any top lvl fighters. Whenever they do have an good fighter he is of African descent too

Is there a reason why the French don't box?

Its not third world, like the Ukraine and most of Eastern Europe.

And they have higher paying and more mainstream sports to participate in like Rugby..

It is ironic, because the Gauls (inhabitants of France during classical antiquity) were the supreme bad asses of the entire world.

I don't know where they lost the plot.

France has Jerome Le Banner... thats about it. Wonder how would have done had he made the full time switch to boxing like Skelton and Ustinov did?

I'd forgotten he even debuted...in fact his crossover lasted eleven years! (four bouts in 98 and then a pair in '09)

Yeah, shame he never wound up facing anyone better than Kreiskott.

JLB is a hard-punching dude and teak-tough (at least mentally). I really don't think his chin is all that bad. Yeah he got KTFO like a dozen times - but virtually all of those were at the hands (and feet) of kickboxing All Time Greats.

I think he would have made a name for himself had he switched over and dedicated himself fully. he stopped Skelton in 1 rd pretty easily back before Skelton made the full time transition to boxing. Le banner a hard hitting southpaw would have had his moments for sure, think he would have accomplished at least what Skelton has and then some.

Btw. heres the Le Banner/Skelton uploaded from Jeromes personal YT channel.

Yeah, the HW division of the last decade hasn't been such an exclusive party that someone with JLB's attributes couldn't get on the VIP list.

Of course, he is susceptible to a punch although I don't think his chin is as bad as some claim - and that could have always held Jerome back. It would have been interesting to see how far his punch could've taken him, definitely.

Yeah Jerome never had the greatest chin, but I don't think it's as bad as some say either... Some of his more brutal KO losses came while he was backed against the ropes, and instead of circling away he would try to fight his way out. Though I think he would have likely improved his defense, and gotten rid of a lot of his bad habits had he made the switched and gone with a good trainer. a lot of the K-1 heavies have good talent, but usually are a bit rough around the edges.

The best Gladiators in ancient Rome were usually Gauls.

Famous ones include Crixus, Oenomaus, Castus, and Gannicus.

If someone asked "Why are there no good Kenyan boxers?" or "Why are there no good Congolese boxers?" and you answered with "They're wusses" you'd be accused of being racist.

But we live in an era of Cultural Marxism and the double standards that come with it.
