For who? I think Patterson is the liekly winner, however Burns is tougher than say Ingo was, and could upset.

Burns might suprise many people imo. He had a iron chin, Sure Patterson could hit, but lets not forget that Burns had power also. I would not be shock if Burns knocks or kos Patterson, It would be a close fight though. Burns is pretty underated.

I think Patterson would fairly easier one of the few fight where he would be bigger and have greater reach. As well as having the power, speed and defence over Burns.

I dont think there is much in it as far as reach goes,Floyd was faster ,both could dig ,Floyd again has the edge in power, chins on a par,Burns never really faced a tremendous puncher, those that Floyd met usually kod him, apart from Ingo ,who only managed it 1 out of 3.I give the edge top Floyd by late stoppage ,but it could be lively while it lasted.

Patterson fairly easily. His era had much more skill and he had too much for the short, squat Burns to deal with.

What evidence suggests that Burns had an iron chin?

He was never ko. That is one thing. He was stop on his feet, but he was never counted out. In his day he was consider to have a iron chin, he was a tough little man.
He took on punchers like Jack Johnson, (Who can hit when he wanted too, and he punish Burns.),
Also he was a middleweight taking on HEAVYWEIGHTS. Morris, Johnson, Flynn could not put Tommy out for the count.

one of burns' best attributes was that he was a pretty savvy character. Whether he was upsetting Hart before their fight or lulling O'Brien into a fight unprepared, if you had a kind of mental weakness, Burns was very good at exploiting that weakness. Perhaps it was coming from a guy who fought so often as an undersized and disadvantaged opponent that he needed to be resourceful in other ways. Burns always thought he was smarter than the average pug, and there is real evidence that he was.

This would not come into much play with Floyd. Floyd always came into the ring to fight and was always game, even if he did bring a disguise to go home with after a Liston loss.
I have watched as much of Burns as is available and along with the readings would think that he had pretty good defense, but could also be hit.
Floyd gets all nods for speed in both foot and hand.

I think that Floyd out punches and out lands a very game Noah Brusso who gets some shots in. In the end, I would have to say Floyd wins on punch count and takes the UD.

Interesting match up.

Burns was 5' 7" Patterson maybe 6'. Burns' best fighting weight about 175 Patterson just over 180. Burns' reach was 74 1/2" to Patterson's 71. Both were quick on their feet. Both had fast hands with a very slight edge to Floyd. Burns had the better chin. Patterson might have had a small edge in defence, but Burns had better one-punch power. Key for Burns is to get in and land on Floyd's suspect chin. Key for Floyd is to keep Burns at range and land his combinations. This is a pick-em fight.
