Default Thumb Injury - Fight in 2 weeks

SORRY POSTED THIS IN THE WRONG FORUM - MODERATOR PLEASE DELETE AS I HAVE PLACED IN THE TRAINING FORUM NOW. THANKS!

Hey all,

I have a sprained right thumb, kind of hurts especially if gets caught wrong or blocked. Anyway normally Id just rest it up, not spar for a couple of weeks, however I have my first fight in 2 weeks.

Feeling really good (apart from the thumb) and am training hard, but working around the right hand as best I can i.e. not putting power in and throwing it in sparring when I know I can hit clean.

Was wondering if anyone had advice on this? I am taping it with sports tape for support, using 16oz gloves, icing it afterwards.

No way I am pulling out of my first competition!

Thanks guys.

Hit hard and early, believe you can stop your opponent quickly and that you don't have to suffer from the pain for long.

I had problems with my right thumb leading up to my second match. I hurt it two weeks before and i could not punch with the hand.
I skipped sparring sessions and bag work. I even skipped some mitt work and i ended up losing the match.
Injuries should be taken seriously and dont go in there thinking you can just throw a big one and not care about the pain. You can easily hurt yourself even more and it will be bad in the future.
I suggest skipping the fight if you are not 100 % fit and ready.

Make sure during sparring you take the power off of your shots and shoot it with just speed a contact shot as you get closer to the fight try and put some power on that shot in sparring to see how it feels if you focus on landing those shots on your two bigger knuckles index and middle it shouldnt be a problem be careful when cutting to the body...

You should be okay you have two weeks
