A lot of respected posters on here think Saul Canelo can pull off the bob and weave. He is 5'8 but stocky and build just like Tyson. He got a thick neck and will not be able to make 154 much longer.
He will run into major problems at 160 and 168 because he's only 5'8 and everyone there is 6 feet+. But he is only 22 and can still change his style to the bob and weave tactic. Mike Tyson was a 5'10 heavyweight and he knocked out guys 6'3-6'6. Against Berbick he was so low to the ground his lips touched the ground and he made Berbick look stupid. |

Yeah everyone needs to fight like Tyson!!!
So then once someone like Lewis comes along, he can be the best boxer on the planet!! Lewis KO8 Tyson. Deal with it. |

While it's not impossible, I don't see Canelo having the kind of adaptability to do that style well, and even if he could, it would help him defensively but probably hurt him offensively and he's not a very fast fighter a la Tyson at HW.

But do you think Lewis could have been even greater if he implemented a bob and weave tactic against guys bigger than he was (like Vitali and Valvuev)

Ok but what do you think will happen if Lewis had fought the Tyson who fought Spinks or Berbick? Did you watch the Spinks and Berbick fight? Tyson was so low to the ground he made them look stupid? Guys like Lewis and Wladimir are even taller and Tyson can go low to the ground and they will miss jabs all night?

He's not as fast and he's just a much more robotic fighter than Tyson. He also has less athleticism all around than Tyson did and Tyson started learning the style when he was in high school and didn't master it until well into his pro days. It's a tough ask for Canelo to change his style so dramatically even at his young age for professional boxing.

Would not fit Lewis's. Lewis is a boxer/puncher. Someone who uses his range to neutralize his opponent's attacks. He's not an in fighter, although his inside game is impressive too. His uppercuts destroyed almost everyone. |

Requires a hellacious amount of training and in-born reflxes/great punching power Something I don't think Canelo possesses. |
