Curry a notch below SRL. Wifred might go down once, but should win a decision in 15 Rd fight. (In a 12 round fight Curry would have a better shot) |

Prime Benitez wins a comfortable 15 round decision over Curry, who was in his time, an excellent fighter. Benitez, however, in his prime, was special.

I'm going against the grain here, and picking the Curry from the Starling II, Jones and McCrory fights to decision Benitez. Benitez is rightly regarded as the greater fighter though...But for a short time, Curry was one formidible welterweight.

Curry's got a chance for sure. Thru the LaRocca to McCrory fights Curry has really stepped it up and was putting a lot of pressure on opponents. He would need to do this against Benitez IMO to give himself a decent chance. Benitez is not a big puncher and also has an average chin - Curry at his finest has the tools to be very competitive in this one. |

It would have been a very good fight.
3 times out of 4, the winner would have been Wilfred Benitez by UD. |

Curry stops Benitez.Harold weston drew with Benitez the first time and weston isn't in Curry's league.Curry hits too hard and Benitez doesn't exactlly have the best of chins.

Not saying he would lose, but don't people remember Benitez getting dropped three times by Curry's brother Bruce, only to get a gift? Or that the rematch was close as well?

Benitez barely escaped in New York against Bruce Curry on November 18, 1977. He was knocked I believe three times and still escaped with a decision. He was also just 19 years of age. Benetiz had decisioned the great Antonio Cervantes about a year and a half before the Bruce Curry fight in San Juan. A prime Benitez does a similiar thing to DC (Bruce's younger brother) that he did to the excellent Maurice Hope in 1981. That being scores a sensational knockout on a devastating counterpunch Curry never sees coming. Benitez is no Lloyd Honeygan. He would be too much for the outstanding Curry who's achilles' heel was his unreliable chin.

A prime Curry was in the upper echelon of Welterweights of all time. I think Curry would have stopped Benitez. He was a really good finisher and carried a lot of power.

If Benitez struggled with Weston and Curry's brother Bruce Don Curry would be too much for Benitez.Curry was quick and hit much harder then Benitez. And before we talk about weak chins lets not forget Benitez didn't exactly have a great chin.
