exactly. everyone was moaning about George Groves last week....not they want more!

no. But as long as the main 3 are genuinely 50/50 then that's the main thing. Since when have novices been in 50/50 fights when they're 4-0? It's always going to happen! I don't see how this can be a bad thing?

Lmfao. How? So Ryan Taylor v Liam Shinkwin for example on March 9, was a bad thing when it wasn't televised live and was the best fight on the card?

BoxNation is great for coach potato boxing fans I agree. However, the real hard core fans, so people tell me, tend to be regular attenders at the live shows. But, if you go to the live shows and look around the arena, be it large or small hall, it is virtually empty except when the main event or the bigger fights take place.
The hard core fan appears to spend between £40 and £500 for a ticket to watch boxing live and up close and then spends most of the night in the bar. They only sit on the seat they have paid a fair bit for, for perhaps 3 or 4 contests. The mind boggles.

There is absolutely no progression in fighting a journeyman. It's the greatest con in boxing to pad cards, pad records, ride the gravy train, fill tv time etc. Decent prospects like Callum Smith have learnt more in a good spar and amateur fights then they do in these fights. I have no interest in wasting 15 minutes watching nothing happen.

Once Callum Smith is in a meaningful fight then he gets TV time. Most prospects could be on an area title in 4 or 5 fights, English in 6 or 7, British at around 10, European at around 15 and contender/world at around 20-22. The reality is they don't get moved quickly enough and don't deserve TV time.

If the prospects want TV time then they can professionally dispatch of their mismatch inside 2 rounds and ensure they get shown at the end of the fight night. If you want me to take notice or build a profile then make me sit up with your performance.

BoxNations production is terrible and the build up cards useless. BN can get away with it though because its a dedicated channel. Under no circumstances should Sky follow their lead.

It doesn't build knowledge, it builds boredom. I've seen my friends fall asleep enough times watching boring cards, they end up missing the main event, changing the channel, or going to a bar and never giving boxing the time of day unless theres a fight like Floyd Pac Haye Chisora etc

Boxing needs more fighters who come in shape to fight, actually fight and are doing so against a live body. That is what will help.

No doubt about it. But you don't want to see youngsters in say, an English title fight untelevised? You don't have to watch it! That's why it's called the red button, so you can watch your Ant&Dec bollocks until the main event. It's not the main ticket selling attraction or on the TV guide at all. A lot of undercard's are shit but I guarantee 90% of people would rather watch 6 fights in one night than 3 which you'd see anyway. It's not like you're just going to watch the undercard in unmeaningful fights!

I agree with this.

Lets say Joshua turned pro tomorrow. He'd go from fighting the best heavyweights in the world at amateur level, to then fighting journeymen in his first 10 bouts. What's the point? Why is dropping his level of opposition so drastically a good thing? I know there are differences between the two formats but still, there is no need for a fighter like Tom Stalker to fight a guy with 139 losses in his first fight when the last time he was in the ring, he was fighting in the Olympics. I hope his progression is quicker than, say, Frankie Gavin's, who fought 7 times before he faced an opponent with a pulse.

Pundits will always talk about "learning fights" but what can a good boxer learn from beating up someone who is there to survive? If anything, they'll get complacent and start to pick up negative traits.

When amateurs turn pro, there's no reason why they can't jump straight in at a good level. I mentioned Joshua at the start of this post and I'd have no issues with him fighting someone like Richards Towers or Tom Dallas in his debut fight. He'd beat them too, just because he's a far superior fighter, even if he is lacking in pro experience.
