Default Frank Shamrock v Wanderlei Silva @ UFC 25 Poll Added

So if Frank hadnt retired after beating Tito Oritz and went on to defend his title against Wandy in 2000

Would Frank outclass him or the matt or would Silva be too aggressive in the stand up?

At the time, was Frank's stand up better than Wandy's ground game?

Who would win and why?

I think Wandy would have TKO'd Frank.

i think frank could have taken down wandy....shamrock was good off his back, so even if he had to pull guard he should have been able to get it to the ground

I would've been sick to see.

I'd give a slight edge to Frank. He was training heaps of striking around that time, and I can only imagine he'd be sharper on the ground than Wand at the same time.

I don't think it would have been easy, but Wandy I thinks combination of aggression and speed would have been too much. TKO would have been late. Wandy is also not a turtle off his back.

Well Frank was a tough SOB and soccer kicks and stomps were banned. Also Wanderlei didnt have the best TDD and his ground game was primarily stalling on his back. And Tito had great success with Wandy and he wasnt as dangerous as Frank in terms of submissions. Hendo was rocked 3 or 4 times in the first fight and he managed to get Wandy down or atleast clinch until he recovered

I can easily see Frank doing variations of these game plans, at least to avoid a kod

Frank's takedown ability wasn't ever much better than Wanderlei's porous takedown defense so I'd say it'd be a battle decided on the feet where Shamrock was HIGHLY overrated and where young Wanderlei was a ****ing beast.

Silva by two round destruction.

It would have been a great fight. If Frank had tried to stand with him there is a good chance Wanderlei would have got him, but I think that Shamrock would have hit a takedown and grinded Wanderlei down til he nailed a submission.

That Zinoviev slam does nothing to increase my appreciation for Frank's takedown ability because he always struggled against good wrestlers, something Zinoviev was decidedly not. If Tito Ortiz, a JUCO washout wrestler, was able to completely wrestle**** Shamrock then he wasn't a very good wrestler.

Wanderlei wasn't a good wrestler either, but his takedown defense was good enough to stop Frank's basic arsenal of clinch throws and doubles for long enough to land leather. Also, even if Frank was able to get him down I doubt that it would result in a definitive finish because no one that survived underneath Arona was going to get tapped by Shamrock.

Yep....here's Frank struggling with good wrestler Dan Henderson in a grappling match

This point is moot because Wanderlei would not be shooting for the take down, and because Ortiz took Frank down, says relatively nothing about Franks ability to take Silva down

We are not talking about the Arona era Wanderlei, we are talking about the ''what if'' match of 2000. And Wanderlei didnt recieve his black belt from Carlinhos Gracie until 2003.
