Default Martinez struggled to get fights at 154 so moved up... Golovkin should do the same

Clearly he's having a hard time getting the creme de la creme of the middleweight division to fight him. Just like Martinez did when at 154. So perhaps it's the right time to move up and take on bigger challenges... he's already beaten Bute and Dirrell in the AMS so he shouldn't have a problem competing at the higher division.

That's my thought...>I think as of right now he's struggling to find fighters who are willing to take the risk so he's faced with having to take what's available. You can't make anyone fight and GGG is not the kind of name that brings a lot of money so he's looked at as a high risk low reward time of opponent. Not exactly the ideal rep to hold when you are trying to further your career.

He's called out Ward and Ward apparently said hes interested in a fight

Lets hope it comes off, Ward has a lot to benefit from this fight taking on an avoided fighter like Golovkin

Only thing is I have a gut feeling he is going to be fighting in Monte Carlo again (With Rodriguez-Grachev) and Ward seems to lack a passport

Gotta respect Trip G looking at the man in his division to step up his level of comp. I think Ward knows he has the skill set to cope with the one equalizer Gennady is known for.

Ward ain't going to go anywhere too far around from his home....so Monte Carlo is out of the question if that's where GGG wants it. Oakland anyone?

Golovkin doesn't come across as the type who would have any problem travelling to an opponents backyard.

Nope....Not at all....he calls the US his home now so I'm sure he's down for whatever. He comes off like he just wants to fight no matter who it is.

People forget Martinez struggled to make some fights at MW as well. Before his fight with Paul Williams, his biggest win was a washed up Alex Bunema and controversial draw with Cintron.

GGG has currently acheived higher status in terms of publicity than any other MW outside of Martinez and Chavez. He doesn't need to move up and fight with a size disadvantage. Hopkins went through the same ordeal and Hagler before him.

The problem is not many want to test the water with Trip G. He's not bringing too much to the table to make the risk worth the reward. It looks like Gennady is taking whatever fight at 160 that is available which isn't much considering Ishida was his last opponent and his last opponent was also a blown up 154 lber.

He shouldn't move up, maybe only on a one off basis, if an attractive fight is offered. He said he'd go up to 175 for BHop in June, But he also claims he can make 154 and would drop down to 154 for the winner of Trout Canelo. Martinez only moved up as a late replacement for Pavlik vs Williams.

I wouldn't say he should move up yet, he just needs that one big win to propel him
Stopping Chavez Jr, or stopping Macklin quicker than Martinez did should force Martinez into fighting him

I think Sergio might be at the end of his career...by the time GGG and Martinez end up fighting, it may only be window dressing for his resume. The Sergio who beat Paul won't be the same Sergio who Gennady faces in 1 or 2 years. Martinez is 37....

Yeah thats why Golovkin needs to get one of these fights now, Martinez will fight Chavez Jr in a rematch at the end of this year, then next year 1 or 2 then retire
GGG needs to make sure he is one of them last fights by getting a big win, hope Sergio doesnt fade too much that he loses then we wonder who would win prime for prime

or he should just drop down to 154 , since those are the only guys he seems to be able to make matches with

Come on, just own up. You're a closet fan of one of the guys ducking Golovkin, right?
