Default Crocop at 38 wins K1 Grand Prix...

I know im a bit late with this one, but i think we need a reminder of it again:

Amazing, 13 years after he had finished as runner-up in 1999 too!

He gave us a glimpse of his patented left high kick too!

It's not about how good he is. It's about how poor everybody else is, overall.

Ya if only Bonjasky and Aerts were competing it would have been different, oh wait......

If u are talking about K1 in general then Badr Hari and Schilts are not poor!

As for the final it was a shame Hari was injured but respect must be given to crocop for achieving this at 38!

Says a lot about the quality of K1 these days when we all seen Cro Cop get knocked senseless by average MMA Strikers then he goes on to win the K1 Grand Prix.

The term "K1 Level Striking" doesn't really apply these days I don't think.

That kick didn't finish the fight.

Cro Cop took a home town decision in the first round.

Schilt hasn't fought for K1 since 2010.

Even though it wasn't the best K1 ever it is still a great accomplishment in an already great career for Cro Cop.

Of course he is past his best. But this just re-iterates how good he was.

The man is a Pride Open Weight Grand Prix winner and a K1 GP winner.

He has just equalled his fellow countryman Branko Cikatićs record as the oldest winner of the K-1 Grand Prix at 38 years old! Think Cikatic was older by a few months though...

Nah, Pride Fighters are proper overrated. He won an Open Weight Grand Prix? And he was a Heavyweight? Wow, what an outstanding accomplishment when you're heavier and taller than 95% of your opponents.

that tournament seemed kinda fishy to me: the old man wins it, in his home place, with his trademark finisher?

when he was in the ufc he didn't seem to throw many of the kicks that he was famous for, and which won him some fights.
i've sometimes wondered exactly just how many kicks he threw during his time with the ufc?
i have a feeling there were times in some fights he either threw only 1, or even no head kicks at all?
of course a fighter has to see an opening first, for the kick to be effective. however i'm sure those openings were there in the fights he had in the ufc.

He owes it to the judges who awarded him a gift decision in his first fight.

It's not the openings that he is missing, it's the openings for his opponent that he would create by throwing too many high kicks. In K1 it still creates some potential defensive gaps, but not to the same extent as MMA where take downs and ground fighting are allowed. You can't fight the same way as you do in your specialized sport when you move to MMA, many of the techniques employed are founded on the assumption that certain forms of retaliation cannot happen due to the rules.

It wasn't really as bad of a decision as people make it out to be.
