We all know DK is a dishonest bitch... but how does his dishonesty and disloyalty compare with the likes of other promoters? With Frank ******, Bob Arum & Golden Boy? Aren't all promotors pretty greedy?

He did turn up at the funeral of Greg Page's mother to get him to sign a contract once.

As i remembered it, Smith was a late substitute for someone else or at least Teribble Tim didn't want to fight him.
He got onmitivated after that and the result is history

He kicked some poor bastard to death when he was a street hustler.

That doesn't mean he's a bad promoter or bad for boxing necessarily, but it just goes to show that underneath all his hype, bluster and bullshit there lurks a mean, low life, cunt who doesn't care about anyone except Don King and has about as much care or compassion for his fighters as we'd have for a piece of dogshit on the ground.

He has promoted some great cards but in the long run he's done more damage to boxings reputation than probably any other single person (although Tyson comes close).

Well lets be honest, you and i both know all those people didn't turn out primarily due to Tyson! They all knew that if Page could show even a spark of the talent he did vs Snipes we would be looking at the biggest potential Heavyweight Fight since Louis - Schmeling II.

Always heard that the guy was a shiesty bastard and have heard it confirmed by many within the boxing circles ...

One thing that always caused me to wonder though was the Rumble In The Jungle fight ... when King goes up to Ali to congratulate him, Ali says something to King with a look of hostility on his face ... Don's face drops as if he's walked into the house, laughing and joking, to see his family held hostage or something ... what exactly did Ali say and why the hell do people still do business with the shiesty bastard?

Money, and the fact that he runs so much of the show.

So then, knowing his reputation, why do fighters complain when they get taken for a ride, and why do we, as fans, feel sympathy for them?

I mean, why would you allow your child to hit a lion in the head and then get angry with the lion for Mike Tyson'ing your child's ears off, knowing a lion's nature?

The irony was Whitherspoon was mandated to give Tubbs a rematch because he had failed a drugs test in their encounter earlier that year.

Actually, it was his father's funeral, but quite true.

I know he jipped Ali out of what, like a million dollars for the Holmes fight.

Thing is even when the top fighters did their best to avoid dealing with Don King he'd work his way into the picture. Either he'll have the title holder under wraps, or he'd have the top contenders the guy needs to fight on the way to the title. So when the time comes for the match to be made he's going to do his best to exercise options.

Fans might sympathize to a point, but then we still want to see the matches made. So what do we care if the guy is going to get screwed out of 70% of his purse? Easy to say when it isn't our money. Boxers probably have the same mentality about fighting tomato cans. 50 bucks for a ppv card of stinkers, to see the main event, that turns out to be a crap fest.
