Default What is the minimum fitness work for an amateur?

Just wondering what most amateurs would do fitness wise to prepare for 3 x 3 minute rounds. I go for a 4 mile run a day and ride the bike for about 10/15 mins on a tough level. But that's about it.

If your running the 4 miles at a fast pace that should be good if it's a jog I'd add in sprints and sparring should help

Sport-specific stuff comes first, sparring, bag work, shadowboxing, drills, etc. Besides that I go running a few times a week, I cycle between 20 and 40 km a day, and as soon as the weather allows it I'll be swimming and canoeing a lot.

It's my only means of transport. The gym is a 20 km round-trip, supermarket about 18 km, moms 20 km, my brother 25, etc. It adds up quickly.

I think it depends on your area. In Minnesota its 3X1.5 minutes

I would say depends on your style if you a slickster counter punching on the back foot you need to put in more time than if your a hard hitting brawler.

i wouldnt even run everyday for amateur, maybe 3 or 4 times a week including some sprints
sparring
drills and heavy bag, shadow boxing etc
strenght training push ups etc

your running and cycling is plenty for a amateur fight, worry about your boxing training first. You dont need to run everyday in my opinion.
Dont be afraid to have a day of your running sometimes you need a rest your body to recover.

You understand your body best, see how you go in sparring that will be a good enough guide for your fitness for a amatur match

Thanks buddy. But surely it cant harm to do extra running. I go every night mostly because I like it and it refreshes my mind.

Correct but many boxers do running as well as boxing.

4 miles is probably too long for a 6 minute fight and especially not everyday.

I would use some of that energy into some sprints or whatever it takes to max out your vo2 threshold. You don't even need to be fancy about it, I take the soccer ball around the park and just run myself into the ground. That way you're working on balance and practising body mechanics because lets face it, dribbing and kicking can be highly coordinated activity while performing under exhaustion and all those movements are useful for boxing.
