I don't know why. But it is a fact. Everything about oz boxing seems to be of a very poor standard. Not just the boxers. The TV commentators are useless too. The boxing rings are poor. the refs are poor. The fans seem far less knowledgeable....
Geale, the top OZ boxer is a freakishly gifted athlete and he has used his exceptional fitness and endurance to compensate for a lack of boxing skill. But he is the exception.....and as I say even he is really not a terribly gifted boxer.
What's odd is that Oz in General is a powerhouse in world sports. Why not boxing? Dunno.

As an european it is not that bad, but i agree that when i watch australian boxing, the standards are just not there to compete with America & Europe. Maybe the passion for the sport it's not as big at it is in other countries? Geale is a very skilled boxer, maybe not A-class but good indeed.

Take Denmark for instance, we produced okay fighters. But Mikkel Kessler really made boxing what it is today in the country, they're not joking when Sauerland calls him the Beckham of Denmark, basically 95% of the country knows him and lets not forget he is a world class fighter, he is a very popular boxer, especially in the UK (Sure some brits will agree with me). Now Boxing is on the rise, thanks to Kessler & Sauerland's new scandinavian stable in the country.

Maybe Australia could benefit from an world class fighter who gets the whole country behind him and also is a well known & established fighter both inside & outside of OZ
