I really think Ali was out of line by callin Louis an Uncle Tom as well as Joe Frazier for that matter.

As far as he and his silly friends at the time were concerned any blacks who were not zealous members of their heretical "Muslim" religion, were 'uncle tom's'. He was ineed out of line as were they all, black Nazi's.

p.s. I'm not calling muslims heretics btw, but the 'nation of islam' were/are considered heretics by orthodox muslims, both for their preaching of race-hatred and for calling their leader "a prophet" in blatant disregard for the Quran.

Ali was wrong to disrespect Louis but you have to look at both sides of the argument. Louis also disrespected him and he did give Louis a lot of money later on.

He made some disparaging remarks about Ali early on in his career. He didnt like the fact that he was with the NOI and did not think much of Ali as a fighter. Ali found the remarks hurtfull coming from his boyhood idol and responded in kind.

You can blow the thing out of proportion though. Relations were mostly cordial and Ali did more to help Louis than most.

This is out of the movie "AKA Cassius Clay".

i saw this in the Univ. Texas campus theater back in the early 70's when Ali was just coming back and chasing Frazier.

Interesting that he did end up on the ropes in the FOC and got put down too.

But at the time the film was made we just knew of the 60's version of Ali.

I think both are theoreticaly possible.

Louis was the best heavyweight finisher of all time bar none. Even guys like Liston and Foreman are not in the same bracket. Basicaly the only way you can ever know how sombody is going to stand up to Louis's punches is if they fight Louis. If Louis gets ali on the ropes he is in big trouble unless he gets off them quickly.

I can also see a scenario where Louis wins on points. If he cuts down the ring and goes to the body then counters to the head he might rack up enough points to win just like Norton did.

This is Joe Louis we are talking about so anything is possible.

My dad saw Louis in the Army Air Force during WW 2 doing exhibitions.
He said kinda what Cus was talking about ,that although "shuffling", Joe would sometime in the fight get the chance to launch his extremely fast, crushing combinations on Ali.

Of course me, the hippies and the rest of the anti-war establishment thought Ali was untouchable at that point.

Probably go like Conn-Louis I,.. Ali can dance his way to a decision, but if he decides to trade late with Louis, well, Louis in his prime can knock anyone out.
