Default Ricky Burns

Wondered what the thoughts on the forum of what Rickys next move should be and against what class of opponent and what weight class , Personally i dont think ricky belongs at 140lb division as his stregnth and punch power will be an issue , Id like to see him assess how he does the weight and make 135lb more comfortably perhaps through a nutritionist etc , The jungle drums have been beating hes moving to 140lb and will fight in Manchester in september then also hearing it will now be october in either Leeds or London , Personally think the time is right for Ricky to do some sort of interview and outline his plans as he hasnt given an interview since his shock defeat to Zlatacannin

He should stay at 135 - plenty of domestic fights he can still be competitive and earn some money from. As far as world level and 140 are concerned though, he should stay well clear. The only fighter at that weight he could even consider fighting, with a title, is Vargas because he couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag.

Surely they have to try and get him the Limond fight next. He shouldn't need a warm up for that. If he can't beat Limond then pack it in Ricky. That jaw is never going to be right.

Willies looking for a european shot or he has to face Tyrone Nurse for a mandatory british defence

Ricky against Tyrone Nurse for a vacant British title if Willie gets the European shot would be a good fight. Tyrone doesn't hit that hard and Ricky should be able to outbox him, doing so would build his confidence and get him a British title.

But if Ricky can make Lightweight safely then he should stay there.

The rumours of him killing himself to make lightweight imo only seem to be of late , there was never an issue in him making weight in Billys place at Lightweight , personally id like to see Ricky and Billy regroup as i dont think Sims is the answer atall tbh

Apparently Ricky was looking brilliant in sparring so that must have been around 140lbs probably more. Maybe he is better suited at the bigger weight, although we know he isn't a puncher.

Problem is though, has he been beating "lightweights" up at 140+? Although again I'm assuming the sparring partners aren't exactly on weight either.

Who knows. But likewise what Stevie said I'd like to hear from him and what his opinion was of what went wrong exactly. Gameplan? Weight problems? I'd like to know.

I agree, no issues him winning a belt, fair play. But once he fought real world operators he came up well short.

He is also going backwards now, can't see him doing anything at 140 or 135 now.
