I remember Jeff Powell in the daily mail single handedly starting the worldwide story of Lewis making a comeback to fight Klitschko a few months ago on the basis of a vague quote from Bob Arum who to my knowledge never ever worked with Lewis and didnt actually claim to have any inside knowledge on a comeback. You have to wonder if Powell was just trying to fill up some column inches by creating a non story to justify his wages!
Though to be fair Powell is one of the better writers usually but again is mainly a football writer, perhaps due to the lack of interest by the papers to give up space to boxing, usually a half page article 7 pages in is the best you get.

The only newspaper writers on boxing that I really read are Kevin Mitchell in the Observer and Donald McRae in the Guardian (when his Tuesday interviewees are boxers). Their books "War baby" and "Dark Trade" were great.

Me personally I am objective, and very good with the written word. I would be a far better boxing journo than pretty much every existing boxing writer in the UK. And I mean that 100%.
Not much good at punctuation though, eh?

Agreed that Dark Trade is the better book and McRae the better writer but I enjoy Mitchell's stuff, boxing and non-boxing. It's refreshing to have a general sports columnist in a major paper that frequently comments on boxing.

Whatever it is - it doesn't look like it belongs there.
