Default Sodium

How bad is salt for your diet? I'm pretty much addicted to the stuff. I have cut down alot though, more for just general health and all. J/W

That excuse people use for putting heaps of salt on their food .... "it helps me recover after a heavy workout ... i lost heaps of body salts" ... is bollocks. Ideally you'd be better off adding no salt at all to your food. You get enough from the foods naturally.

It does depend on the types of food you eat - a boxer should not have a problem adding a little salt to their foods - i prefer herbs & spices on my meats though. Your diet should be pretty "paleo" anyway. Its the normal idiots that eat everything out of a cardboard box that have too much sodium in their diet.

I'm not even thinking about adding it- i just know i get alot as it is. My family has a history of really high blood pressure (where it becomes a serious health problem) and i just wanted to start cutting some sodium out of my diet. I'm just trying to get it down to "acceptable" levels instead of unhealthy levels.

Actually the majority of the world is already consuming salt at an abnormal level. Know this: The body is VERY efficient at retaining salt, and most of the natural salt you acquire is enough from eating basic food.

A little added salt isn't an issue as long as your getting enough water. Drink plenty of water and you'll be fine. The issue arises with people who don't train and lose a lot of the minerals and electrolytes we do or don't drink enough water. The only concern I would have is if your trying to make weight. The extra sodium will make it harder to drop water if you need to make weight.

I limit it as much as possible. Sometimes its tough but got to make an effort because it is bad for you...

Terrible. You should really make a conscious effort to avoid eating too much of it. It's not a problem for me as I generally can't stand either that or sugar.

its simple, you just need to get out of the habit. you might find your food bland at the start but soon youll be able to taste what the food was ment to taste like. and i agree with sjfou, id much rather put some fresh herbs or spices on food than salt.
