I remember there was a thread before the crash of classic boxing quotes.

Bob Fitzsimmons: "The bigger they are, the harder they fall."

Joe Louis: "He can run, but he can't hide."

George Foreman: "There's never been a boxer better than Joe Louis. You'd take one shot from him and you were sure he'd have seven or eight more coming for you. Certainly Muhammad Ali was the greatest man ever to fight, but not the greatest boxer."

Max Baer: "He hit me 18 times while I was in the act of falling."

Joe Frazier: "Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight champion of all time. Rocky Marciano is second only to Louis. Where do I rate Ali? Somewhere below me. I beat him, and if I could beat him, no doubt Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano could have beaten him."

Mike Tyson: "When you’re a great finisher, you’ll become popular. Joe Louis was a great finisher."

Angelo Dundee: "Joe Louis, to me, was the finest human being God put on this earth in every way."

Joe Louis on Rocky Marciano: "It hurt to even bump into him."

Taff Corbett: "If I fought Evander with a baseball bat, I would win the fight, but it would be by decision."

Brian London, answering if he would fight Ali again: "Sure, as long as he ties a 56 lb. weight to each leg."

Willie Pep: "I've got it made. I've got a wife and a TV set -- and they're both working."

Here is a conversation between George Foreman and Bob Arum in 1995, Foreman: "Bob, I can't chase these guys anymore." Arum's reply: "George, I cant put it in the contract."

Randall "Tex" Cobb: "If you screw things up in tennis, it's 15-love. If you screw up in boxing, it's your ass."

Lennox Lewis; "I am definitely not scared of Mike Tyson. I am at the top of the food chain and he is looking to knock me off. Mike's an arrogant imbecile. He sounds like a cartoon character."

Lennox Lewis; "I was very aggressive as a child. At primary school in London my attitude was 'If you don't do what I say, I'll knock you out', and I was eventually expelled for fighting."

Don King, on boxing's rating system: "When we started, it was based on lies. It's changing now. There are no secrets in the business. You've got to come with the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. It's becoming very confusing."

Buddy McGirt, when he was asked by Gil Clancy who would win the up-coming fight between Maurice Blocker and Glenwood Brown he replied: "The black guy."

Harry Carpenter: "This boxer is doing what is expected of him, bleeding from his nose."

Willie Pep, talking to an old opponent years after each retired. "Do you recognize me?" the old opponent asked. Willie looked hard and considered before finally replying "Lie down so I can recognize you."

Harry Kabakoff, on Chango Cruz: "The bum was up and down so many times. that I thought he was an Otis elevator."

Joe Frazier: “I hit him with body shots that would have brought down the walls of a city. Lawdy he's a great champion." After the Thrilla in Manila.

George Foreman: "That gal's all skull and no brains. She's like Joe Frazier with lipstick."

George Foreman: "The referee is the most important man in the ring besides the two fighters."

Harry Carpenter: "It's not one of Bruno's fastest wins... but it's one of them."

Max Baer, when asked for his definition of fear: "Standing across the ring from Joe Louis and knowing he wants to go home early."

Harry Carpenter: "Marvelous oriental pace he's got, just like a Buddhist statue."

Dan Castellaneta: "If the Bible has taught us nothing else, and it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls sports, such as hot oil wrestling, foxy boxing, and such and such."

Shane Mosley; "The Glory is the issue to me. Money comes and goes, but a legacy stays forever. I hate to lose"

Sugar Ray Leonard; "It is wonderful. It truly is. It is the only thing that is real! It's you against me, it's challenging another guy's manhood. With gloves. Words cannot describe that feeling of being a man, of being a gladiator, of being a warrior. It's irreplaceable."

Blackie Sherrod, talking about a heavyweight contender: "He has everything a boxer needs except speed, stamina, a punch, and ability to take punishment. In other words, he owns a pair of shorts."

Tommy Farr: "Every time I hear the name Joe Louis my nose starts to bleed."

Dan Duva, on Mike Tyson hooking up again with promoter Don King: " Why would anyone expect him to come out smarter? He went to prison for three years, not Princeton."

Lennox Lewis was asked why he did not sign a contract with Don King after won the Olympic Gold medal, his response "How can you trust a man who can talk for 5 minutes and you cant understand a sentence of it!"

Sugar Ray Leonard was asked on the Johnny Carson show, "when do the wounds from the fight heal", his reply "when the check clears."

Evander Holyfield "A champion shows who he is by what he does when he's tested. When a person gets up and says 'I can still do it', he's a champion."

Randall "Tex" Cobb: "When I got up I stuck to my plan -- stumbling forward and getting hit in the face."

Larry Holmes: "It's hard being black. You ever been black? I was black once when I was poor."

Sonny Liston: "Newspapermen ask dumb questions. They look up at the sun and ask if it is shining."

Willie Pastrano, when asked by the ring doctor if he knew where he was: "You're damn right I do. I'm in Madison Square Garden getting the shit knocked out of me."

Henry Cooper, replying to boxing abolitionist, Baroness Edith Summerskill, about the brutalities of his sport. Baroness: "Mr. Cooper, have you looked in the mirror lately and seen the state of your nose?"
Cooper: "Well madam, have you looked in the mirror and seen the state of your nose? Boxing is my excuse. What's yours?"

Alan Minter: "Sure there have been injuries and deaths in boxing - but none of them serious."

Gerry Cooney: "Growing up training, I use to get up so early I would wave to the garbage men going by. So, I had this relationship with Blue Collar America and I really liked it. I felt that lots of those people looked forward to me winning."

Frank Bruno: Boxing is just show business with blood."

Jack Dempsey: "Honey, I forgot to duck."

Holmes was a dick, we all know that. A classless buffoon of the highest order.

UNKNOWN JOE LOUIS SPARRING PARTNER: It's his eyes...they're blank and staring, always watching you. That blank look - that's what gets you down.

FLOYD PATTERSON: I was never knocked out. I've been unconscious but it's always been on my feet.

JACK DEMPSEY: You're in there for three-minute rounds with gloves on and a referee. That's not real fighting.

FLOYD PATTERSON: It's like being in love with a woman, she can be unfaithful, she can be mean, she can be cruel, but it doesn't matter. If you love her you want her, even though she can do you all kinds of harm. It's the same with me and boxing. It can do you all kinds of harm. I love it.

Here's my very favourite; i write it about twice a week in here:

ALI: You really think you could've whipped me?

LOUIS: When I was fighting we had a thing called the bum of the month tour.

ALI: You callin me a bum?!

LOUIS: You would've been, on the tour.
