Default was there any heavyweight that had as much late power as david tua?

david tua may never win a world title and he may never be remembered more for his losses to lewis and ibeabuchi to some, but what a talent he was in regards to being a constant threat through a entire fight.

i dont know any fighter that was as dangerous in round 12 as he was during round 4.

was there a heavy weight with such late power?

Good question.

His build was perfect for maintaining power, the way he could and did put his body into almost all of his shots. Very compact, very short.

He wasn't the most active fighter at times, so hunting fighters down for those big shots meant he could maintain power.

Hmm.

yeah, the more evidence that comes the more i think that tua has a very good argument of being the most powerful heavy weight fighter through all 12 rounds in the entire history of boxing.

Marcianos power was a continuious thing and did not conserve and he had it late, Weaver had it but he restrained his pace not tiring so that he had power sporatically, with Tua it was the same , the pace of some of his fights were very slow and he conserved his power, Ali showed late power vs bonavena (or was it Oscar just getting tired) Joe Frazier showed it with Ali in the 11th and 15th...Joe Louis showed it with Walcott and Conn....Vlad showed it in the 11th vs Peter but he has also showed the other side

Tua could carry his power through 12, and that's pretty impressive.

You need good stamina, and good concentration. You can't afford to slack off thinking you're well up on the cards, that's just asking for trouble as quite a few guys found out to their cost.

Interesting stats, Senya13.

Other than Ribalta, Tyson never had to demonstrate late power because he was effective at getting fighter's outta there quickly. The fighters who he couldnt get out as quick were fighters who presented a stylistic challenge where they either won or held on to survive. His power doesnt falter as the rounds wear on. Its still there.

David did often set a such very Pedestrian pace thats its little wonder he had some reserve at the end of a fight !

Perhaps a Prime Frazier qualifies on the strength of the fantastic pace he set, he still had enough to put Ali on queer st in the Eleventh, an Floor him in the 15th

Joe Louis of course could be a patient hunter.
