Certainly he had a good jab insofar as he could use it with his short reach.

LOL.....You ain't kidding! And Tyson just casually moved back and avoided it as if it were an annoying fly buzzing near his head. That was a beautiful counter right by Tyson also.......

Very good jab.

He smashed some of Mitch Green's dental work out of his mouth with a jab.

I wish Tyson would have been able to display his jab against a prime Larry Holmes.

yes tyson had a great jab. It was very effective, and its one of the things he lost later in his career.

Back in the day people got a bit carried away with Tyson's jab. Now and then he'd hammer someone with a fast sledgehammer jab and people would go a bit over the top because of his size and the fact he could land the odd smashing straight left.

Now and again he'd belt someone with it, and it was fast and powerful and hard to dodge from his range. As far as controlling fights with it - nah. Just a powerhouse hard to avoid shot used from time to time.

No Tyson regularly threw the jab as part of his attack. Tyson did have a pressure fighter jab and he would jab his way in before unloading combinations. The jab would close the gap and push his opponent out of his game

Tyson with his stature of only 5'11 (or less depending on who you believe) never could be a jab and move sort of fighter but that doesnt mean it wasnt a vital part of his game

Interesting, what he threw was basically a southpaw jab. Tyson was a converted southpaw. Perfect textbook counter, impressive that it resulted in a knockdown. His jab was good but considering his small stature, he was never gonna win or dictate fights with it the way Holmes, Lewis, Ali etc could.

Well it's down to degree's really. His jab was good in some ways for him, but he was never a guy who was going to dominate a fight with his jab so it's up to minute criteria. Classically judged his jab was nothing special, but perhaps in relation to his own game and physique it was damn good. Would i be right?

You sure about that? I always remember seeing him using his righthand for stuff. I'd have considered him abidextrious.

But back on topic, yes, Tyson had a very good jab. It was about at perfect as it could be for his style.
