Interesting question. Tito has the better skill and the better right hand. Pipino has a superb chin, but Tito's isn't exactly weak either. Both hit like a ton of bricks. I am going to hesitantly put my faith in Tito's superior skill, right hand and speed. Don't be surprised to see it go longer than expected.

Both have crushing power, but Tito is a little more refined. However, this will come down to jaws in a shootout and Cuevas' jaw (pre-Hearns) was premium grade US steel. Cuevas in 5 in a veritable war.

Cuevas third round TKO. Trinidad tends to get nailed early, which is Cuevas strong suit as he storms out from the opening bell. If Tito suffers a flash Knockdown & is briefly hurt. Cuevas is an unmerciful finisher, there would be no comeback from this.

This pays out a bit like Trinidad-Campas.
I can see Triniad hitting the canvas early, and having to box his way out of trouble. Eventually, though, his edge in terms of skill would be the determining factor, and he'd wear Cuevas down, drop him, and stop him in six memorable rounds. |

what a great matchup
if cuevas is the champion he will be at his most dangerous and i think he could knock tito out. but im sure the more realistic scenerio is that trinidad gets knocked down gets up and knocks out cuevas. |

Did anyone suffer a flash knockdown & survive during Cuevas' title reign? If Tito tastes the canvas he is toast. Look at the list of broken bones in Cuevas' wake. For Trinidad to win he would have to jab & move, wearing Cuevas down for the later rounds & avoid getting clipped early. Which he fully capable of doing.

look at the victims on cuevas list!! none of them compares even remotely to tito........AND none of those guys was a real big puncher. cuevas bumrushed guy like scott clark or pete ranzany cause he didnt fear their power. but when he went in with hearns.........suddenly he is on his bike in fear of his power. so i see cuevas being the one backing off and tito putting on educated pressure behind his high guard. cuevas would try to catch him with big single punches while tito would close the distance behind his jab and lead right hand. in round three cuevas comes off the ropes with a big right but tito counters him with a perfect left hook. cuevas goes down hard.......and his management steps in before the count is completed. |

That still doesn't change the fact that if Tito gets knocked down by Cuevas he'll likely be stopped or very very badly hurt at least.
Tito had a mediocre chin and isn't someone who i would put any faith in to absorb much punishment from Pipino. I reckon he can probably get to Cuevas first though. |
