Default Carlos Monzon vs Joe Calzaghe at 168 pounds.

Fifteen rounds, as these two beasts can handle it. A similarly orthodox boxer-puncher in Kessler gave Calzaghe a good fight, how would the smaller but greater Monzon do?

Is Calzaghe's chin and workrate unsolvable for a methodical fighter who is not hard to find?

Can Monzon time Calzaghe's tendency to go for risky manouvers coming in and slow down the pace?

hmmm, interesting. not to be a smartass, but can we assume the weight loss has no effect on monzon for the purposes of the match?

if so, monzon times him, drops him mid-rounds and slows calzaghes frantic pace to a crawl. by the championship rounds, monzon has taken full command and calzaghe's speed and chin see him to the final bell for wide UD loss

Monzon stayed out the above 160 lb area.

Joe Cal by 15 rd decision.

monzon was a great fighter. calzaghe was not. joe might have fought carlos but only if he was well into his 40s.

Monzon would wear the extra poundage well and beat Calzaghe on points. Too strong and tough.

I really must rewatch this fight...I just don't remember it as a tough night for Joe???

Having said that even though Monzon would be in unchartered waters in terms of weight and perhaps even size/skill in his opponent I feel comfortable picking him in a clear decison.

Calzaghe UD - too much speed, workrate and movement. Monzon not quite defensively good enough to pull off a move up in weight against such a good boxer
