Tony was Mike's brother, yeah.

Mike Ayala had one more go at a title, but it was in 1985 when he was pretty much a cadaver.

Great fight, fight of the year if I remember. Lopez actually stopped Ayala twice in this fight if I remember rightly.

Mike 'El Ciclon' Ayala,

Sunday Afternoon - June 17, 1979

Convention Center Arena, San Antonio, Texas

Attendance: 17,000

CBS Sports (Announcers; Tim Ryan, Gil Clancy and Angelo Dundee)

Mike 'The Cyclone' Ayala, proved he had 'steel balls' in this grueling battle.

A great counter-puncher, with very fast hands. For a short guy, had a long reach.

Though out-strengthed, Mike was willing to trade with 'Little Red'.

Both men were 'stunned' several times, but Mike was just a 'tad' short in the
power department, and couldn't get in the 'big one'.

During this bout, Mike Ayala became a 'Hero' on National Televsion, with one
of the 'gutsiest' performances ever.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Ayala, was only 21 1/2 years-old entering this bout. The 5' 4" power-pack
was the NABF Featherweight Champion, and the #1 WBC Challenger.

Mike, had compiled a record of 22-1-0 (11 KO's), since turning professional in
August 1975 (4-year pro career).

Despite the '11' knockouts, Mike wasn't really a 'big banger', but more of a
'two-fisted non-stop' assault puncher, with great endurance.

Mike was really a 122 lb. Super-Bantamweight, fighting in a heavier division,
but he did fight well at 126 lbs.

Again, the kid fought his heart out, but 'Little Red' just hit too hard that Sunday Afternoon,
and wore Mike down.

Many in the Southwest say, that Mike Ayala really took alot out of Danny 'Little Red' Lopez
that Sunday, which softened 'Little Red' up for Salvador Sanchez.

Hard to disagree with that.
