You see how he tighten up once his trainer got a shot through?

It kinda threw me off guard seeing him with his hands up throughout the entire session. He treated those pads with more respect than his opponents.

Gamboa TKO3 Jiminez

Amazing all these mayweather haters....Mayweather is not my fav fighter, but he is infinitly better than this Lord of the rings Extra.

Even Naseem Hamed looked more impressive in his prospect days.

This dude is almost 28, that a very advanced age for a Prospect. he will be classed as on Old Feather/super Feather in a cpl of years

Yes hes got alot of Talent, but dont compare him to the big boys, hes a long way to go.

I say that Gamboa's padwork is more impressive than Mayweather's and I'm a hater all of a sudden?

Man, you're retarded.

Magic!
The going backwards punches are the most impressive.

What about it is not as impressive? He hits the pads with more behind his punches clearly, uses movement going backwards while hitting, shows the same accuracy and ability to roll and slip punches.

That impressed me alot ... punching going backward is a skill that often gets unnoticed especially in up and coming fighters.

Well to start Gamboa needs a crew to surround him while he does the mitts. Preferably 6-7 deep, shaking their heads "yes" and "hell yes" to his pad work.

He also doesn't need to hit the pads so hard, but rather fast. And he should give the no look angle every once in a while. And it would be better if he and his trainer could do this at the same time.

And don't be so concerned about the qualities you mentioned (ie moving backwards, rolling, slipping). Those are secondary to the music and general ambiance of the gym.

Gamboa's padwork isn't more impressive than Floyds ... Floyd works on more than most ... he works on throwing, blocking, and countering all in one series ... he also works on his reactions and fast twitch movements ... its not all a pattern ... At times they (Floyd and Roger) would go through their routine and then all of a sudden Roger may throw a quick ass right hand out the blue or a fast left hook to the body ... just to see if Floyd is still on point and rather he would react to it.

Gamboa was more fine tuning his punching accurracy more than anything ...

Some shots by his trainer slipped through, which in turn caused him to tighten up on his awareness ... but they got through ... they weren't blocked.

Add to that .... Roger will turn Floyd and shot some shit over the top ... something that would catch a fighter during a fight.

He tries to catch Floyd slipping and work on his reactions to shit and his focus.

My trainer used to say the same thing. He is very big on being able to punch while going in reverse.

He didnt keep his hands up the entire session though, if you keep a close eye, you can see him drop his left hand slightly before he goes into a position to shoulder roll, and then he does it again slightly sometime after. Its only a couple miliseconds and its subtle but, thats all the time a really good seasoned counter puncher needs to capitalize. I mean if I can catch his openings, its probably like a feeding frenzy for someone with good hand speed and counter punching ability.

The same could be said of Roy Jones in his prime, who kept his hands low often, even against the counter-punching likes of Toney and Hopkins. Odd that they weren't able to do so.
