Payakaroon I felt got by in boxing on pure talent. He never really honed his technique nearly as much as he did for Muay Thai. Pretty amazing how good of a boxer he was though.

He's pretty damn good throughout that fight, though Meza gets as frustrated by getting called as being knocked down (when he slips) as he does with Samarts style.
Unlike most Thai converts, Payakaroon was a fantastic mover. Some of the most beautiful lateral movement/footwork I've ever seen. Fantastic finish though, as the video shows above. |

"Looked like Pintor took a dive. The dude had a steel chin and this fellow he was fighting looked a rather weak hitter. Very suspicious.

Pintor was as tough as nails. He took some of Zarate's best punches and came back well. He also took Gomez's best for 14 rounds. How he shook off some of those shots from Gomez I'll never know...
But I'll say this...somebody up there must have liked Pintor, since I thought Murata beat him handily, and it's fair to say the decision in the Zarate fight was fairly controversial. Anyway, Fenech-Payakarun...as Sal said, Payakarun was so ashamed of his performance that he became a monk after this fight. He showed beautiful movement and an uncanny ability to get out of trouble, decked Fenech with a counter right in the first round, and landed some decent shots. But Fenech was such an incredible pressure fighter, and Samart really just could not keep him off him. Gonna watch Pintor v Payakarun tonight...never seen it before. |
