Lewis was much better than Basilio. Who needs that exciting, but poor-skilled guy?

How much of Lewis, or Britton, do we have on film to analyze their styles? This needs to be known to give realistic match up scenarios. You can argue Lewis' and Britton's all time greatness by looking at their resumes, but I would rather see Basilio and Griffith get in. Basilio and Griffith are more available for style analysis. There no slouches. It's not like two division champs are a dime a dozen, when the two titles they've won are welter and middle.

Basilio wasn't poorly skilled. Sometimes he seemed to take punches unnecessarily, but moments later he'll pull a left-right counter out of the bag. But Basilio wasn't about skill; he was about aggression, strength, stamina and determination.

There're at least 5 Lewis fights, a I think there's one or two more.

That I've seen, there's his fights with:

Georges Carpentier (a minute or so)
Johnny Basham I (15 min.)
Johnny Basham II (4 min.)
Boy McCormick (5 min.)
Tom Gummer (2 min.)
Augie Ratner (10 min.)

There's no doubt Griffith should be in this tournament, unless we are using it as a chance to explore some lesser known or respected fighters, in which case, let's see Jack Britton make it.

Totally agree with Griffith, the man is top 5 IMO. A splendid Welterweight, and then some.

Sucks. Basilio is a cannon fodder for the rest of the chosen fighters. Lewis could score a couple of upsets.

Basilio is anything but cannon fodder, just because he cops a fair few blows doesn't mean he can't get past people that don't. You need to find an appreciation for the merits of the LaMotta's and Basilio's, they didn't get their reputation for being easy beats. What they lacked in finesse they made up for with heart, courage, toughness and unbelievable desire, something quite a few more talented fighters knew nothing about. The list of could'a beens with immense talent but no balls is endless.

I think I gave SS the Ratner fight. My vote goes for Ted Kid Lewis. He was a GREAT fighter, and I was HIGHLY impress with Kid Lewis vs Basham in both fights. Amazing great fighter.

He beat Ray Robinson. He went 1 and 1 with Robinson. No rubber match for GOOD reason.

Yeah fair call on that point, i can see him whupping Little Joe tho. A small chance he might smother Benitez. He might get Napoles on cuts. To be honest i'd have him in there ahead of Whitaker due to Carmen's body of work at 147, no disrespect to Pern who SS and co know i vastly respect. His size could give Armstrong a good battle. His pressure would be interesting vs Donald. I really think he should be there, tho i see your point.
