Here’s what’s really awesome about Henry Armstrong. After he lost all his titles, he continued to win against top boxers: Willie Joyce (wins over Ike Williams, Lew Jenkins, Chalky Wright, John Thomas), Al Davis (wins over Tony Canzoneri, Tippy Larkin, Bob Montgomery), John Thomas (wins over Lew Jenkins, Willie Joyce, Maxie Shapiro), Sammy Angott (wins over Baby Arizmendi, Davey Day, Bob Montgomery, Lew Jenkins, Willie Pep, Ike Williams, and a draw with Beau Jack), Maxie Shapiro (win over Bob Montgomery), Tippy Larkin (wins over Willie Joyce, Billy Graham, Freddie Cochrane), Lew Jenkins (wins over Lou Ambers, Mike Belloise, Tippy Larkin, Bob Montgomery), Fritzie Zivic (wins over Charly Burley, Sammy Angott, Al Davis, Lew Jenkins), and Juan Zurita (win over Sammy Angott). He did all this rarely weighing more than a junior welterweight. Think about that. That is post-championship Armstrong. While he was champion he was a demon.

I swear i'm not trying to wind anyone up, but he's another one that didn't fancy it with Burley.
Though I think Armstrong would have beaten Burley at the time the fight was going to be made, but still, interesting. Anyway, to answer the question, no, I don't think it's sensible to have him ahead of Greb or Sugar Ray Robinson. Last edited by ronricks; 03-19-2006 at 03:30 PM. |

But I'm sure Street Lethal is fair, they WOULD be on the level of Greg Haugen, Juan Laporte and Roger Mayweather

Walker??? ATG. He did REAL well vs the heavyweights and lightheavyweights. I cant say the same for Robinson. If he RELLY belive he could do well, he would have try again after Maxim. He never try again after loseing. I put Walker as a top ten pound for pound imo. Only Max Schmeling was able to blast Walker out of there.
Flowers was a great middleweight champ. no film. But a good note for the record. Gibbions is other atg heavyweight and lightheavyweight that took Jack Dempsey the full 15 rounds. That has to add something to Greb's resume in compare to Robinson. |
